12 Things Brits Complain About Every Autumn Without Fail
12 Things Brits Complain About Every Autumn

Every autumn, as the leaves change color and the air gets a bit chillier, there’s a bunch of things that repeatedly get on our nerves. From the shorter days to the endless rain, here’s a light-hearted look at the 12 things that reliably bother Brits every year as summer turns into autumn.
1. Dark mornings and evenings

Waking up in the dark and coming home from work in the dark, too. It’s no wonder this gets under our skin! The lack of sunlight can really affect our mood and energy levels. It’s tough to get up when your alarm goes off and it’s still pitch black outside. And let’s not even talk about trying to be productive in the evening when all you want to do is curl up under a blanket.
2. Heating bills shooting up

Just as the weather cools down, heating bills start to climb. It’s always a shock to the system (and the wallet) when you see the first high bill of the season. Trying to keep the house warm without breaking the bank becomes a balancing act. Every degree on the thermostat can feel like a decision between comfort and cost.
3. Trains delayed because of โleaves on the lineโ

It might sound silly, but wet leaves on the tracks can seriously delay trains. It’s one of those uniquely British problems that can make commuting frustrating. The leaves stick to the damp rails and get squished by passing trains, making the tracks slippery and unsafe. This means slower trains and longer journey times, much to our annoyance.
4. Endless rain and soggy shoes

Autumn rain seems to have a knack for catching you without an umbrella. And even when you do remember it, you end up with soggy shoes and damp trousers. Itโs a constant battle to stay dry, and letโs face it, wet socks are just the worst.
5. Cold offices where no one agrees on the thermostat

The office thermostat becomes a battleground as temperatures drop. Some of us are freezing, others are too hot, and no one can agree. Itโs either arctic conditions or a tropical heatwave, and peace is rarely achieved. The struggle for the perfect office temperature is real and ongoing.
6. People putting Christmas decorations up too early

Itโs not even close to December, and yet some folks are already decking the halls. While itโs lovely to get into the festive spirit, seeing Christmas decorations and hearing festive jingles too early can feel a bit much. It makes autumn feel rushed.
7. Getting a cold every other week

With the change of season comes the inevitable sniffles. It feels like you just get over one cold, and then another one comes along. The constant battle between feeling okay and feeling awful is exhausting and annoying.
8. Slippery pavements covered in wet leaves

The same leaves that look so pretty on the trees can be a real hazard once they hit the ground and get wet. Slippery pavements make every trip outside a bit treacherous. Itโs a slipping hazard that many of us could do without.
9. Having to dig out umbrellas again

After the relative dryness of summer, having to remember to carry an umbrella everywhere is a nuisance. And of course, thereโs always the day you forget it, and thatโs when the skies decide to open up. It’s like umbrellas are just another thing to add to our daily load.
10. The clocks changing ruining sleep

The end of British Summer Time means the clocks go back, and while that might sound like we gain an hour of sleep, it often just messes up our sleep patterns. Itโs hard to adjust to the change, and it can leave you feeling groggy and out of sorts for days.
11. Long queues for Sunday roasts

Thereโs nothing better than a hearty Sunday roast, but it seems like everyone has the same idea. The long waits at pubs and restaurants can be a bit of a dampener on the weekend. Waiting in line when youโre hungry is the worst, and it tests our patience every time.
12. Supermarkets running out of pumpkins

As Halloween approaches, everyoneโs on the hunt for the perfect pumpkin. But all too often, you get to the supermarket only to find theyโre all gone. Itโs a real let-down, especially if youโve got your heart set on carving a spooky masterpiece.
