Eric and I always try to find ways to surprise each other when we travel back to Vancouver (our second home) while keeping to our budget. We love a good date Vancouver style, so we are excited to share our ideas for having the best dates in Vancouver.

Vancouver is an amazing city and whether you are looking for romantic things to do in Vancouver today or romantic things to do in Vancouver this week, you will for sure find something that suits your budget.

In this post, we are sharing some of our favourite date places in Vancouver. A lot of those are actually free which is handy if you are on a strict budget or if you are trying to save money while still spending quality time with your partner. In this list, we have also included cheap date ideas Vancouver offers so if you have a lower budget, you will be fine. Of course, in this world, there is always a way to spend more so we have included some fun couple activities Vancouver offers and that are a bit more high-end and perfect for special occasions.

The Horseshoe Bay Lookout, also called the secret Horseshoe Bay Sunset Platform is located in Horseshoe Bay and is one of the most romantic places in Vancouver. It provides some of the best views in the Vancouver area and is a peaceful and quiet spot, perfect to spend time together. From the platform, you will have amazing views on Horseshoe Bay on the left. On your right, you’ll have breathtaking views on the Howe Sound and the mountains on Bowen Island. You can see from the photo that the view on this winter morning was beautiful. It had just snowed there so the mountains were covered with a white blanket, and the waters were so calm, it was really peaceful.  It is one of the best places to watch sunset Vancouver has to offer. 2. Ice Cream at Ambleside for views on Lions Gate Bridge

Ambleside is a neighbourhood located in West Vancouver and is bordered by other areas of Vancouver including Dundarave and North Vancouver. It is one of the most beautiful places in Vancouver and very romantic for couples who are looking for a nice walk. 

Ambleside offers both a beach and a boardwalk along the water and across the park. It is an easily accessible part of Vancouver. The best place to park to reach the beach at Ambleside is at the Park Royal Shopping Centre. Parking is free and only a few minutes from one of the best views of Vancouver. From there, take the pathway that goes into the trees in the back of the parking lot and it will take you to the boardwalk and then to the beach. You can walk, cycle and even bring your dog. 

Taking a walk in Ambleside is one of the romantic things to do in Vancouver. From there, you’ll be able to see the Lions Gate Bridge which is lit up at night. You can also grab ice cream (which we recommend) from DQ and then head to Ambleside and eat it while looking at the bridge. During the day, you can also see seals in the water which is quite cute!

Lighthouse Park is one of our favourite date places Vancouver offers. There is quite a bit to do in the area and you’ll be rewarded with amazing scenic views. Our favourite spot is one the rock formations by the water where you get a clear view of both Lions Gate Bridge, Stanley Park and Vancouver skyline. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Baker in the USA!

From the side cliffs, you get a lush and scenic view of the West coast which as beautiful on a sunny or rainy day! 

One of the most romantic time to come at Lighthouse Park is Golden Hour and sunset time. The light changes at that time and enhance the already existing beauty to deliver a gorgeous show. This is the perfect time to come with your partner, bring a couple of drinks and enjoy the view while you talk about your week together. Keep your eyes open as there are seals in the area!

If you’re not feeling like a movie, a walk or a game and would prefer getting active with your partner, enjoying Stanley Park on your bike might be what you’re looking for. Exploring Stanley Park by bike is a great activity for couples in Vancouver. It allows you to be outdoors while still sharing a good time together. 

You can rent bikes in Stanley Park or bring your own. Alternatives also include rollerskating! There are dedicated bike lanes in the park which makes the ride more enjoyable.

9. Cypress Trestle Bridge, one of the peaceful free date ideas Vancouver offers

The Cypress Trestle Bridge, also know as the new West Vancouver trestle bridge, is a wooden bridge located in West Vancouver that offers stunning views on Downtown Vancouver and the ocean. The area is very peaceful and perfect for a walk no matter the season.

We visited Cypress trestle bridge in the winter and it was beautiful. The first section takes you across large rock formations that were broken to build the path through them. Then you enter a section of the bridge in the trees. This part is beautiful with tall trees making you feel like you’re in a magical forest. Coming out of this section, you find yourself on the most open part of the bridge with beautiful views on the ocean and downtown Vancouver. Don’t forget to turn around for more beauty as well! If you are looking for a peaceful and unique date idea in Vancouver, this is a great one.

This is one of the free dates ideas Vancouver offers that remains new as the bridge only opened in late 2021. This is perfect for a Vancouver date in 2023 as not a lot of people have been here. There is a small parking lot at the beginning of the path.

10. Take a plunge in Lynn Valley

If you are looking for one of our North Vancouver date ideas, then Lynn Valley is your destination. Eric actually grew up in North Vancouver so Lynn Valley has got no secret for us! In the park, you will find the famous Lynn Valley suspension bridge, as seen in a number of TV Shows such as Virgin River, along with walking paths and a natural pool. 

Lynn Valley is like a pocket of peace, making you forget about all of your problems, making it perfect for a date as you’ll be able to focus on your partner, or soon-to-be partner.

The suspension bridge is free and takes you over the creek. You’ll be able to see a waterfall as well. From there, take a left down to the water. First, you’ll walk through a magical forest with funny looking trees. Then, you’ll arrive at the natural pool. Here you can go in the water, lay on the beach or take part in the rock jumping activities. To make it even better, bring a picnic and spend the afternoon here.

In the winter, Lynn Valley is also a great date idea in North Vancouver! You can take a misty walk on the path, and sit on the beach to talk for a bit!

11. Picnic at Kitsilano Beach, one of the cheap date ideas Vancouver offers

Kitsilano is one of the hype neighbourhoods of Vancouver so it is perfect for a Vancouver date for couples in their 20s or 30s. From the cute neighbourhood to the beautiful beach and the view, your partner will love this idea. All you have to do is bring a picnic, maybe a card game, and enjoy yourself!

If you’re more on the active side, Kitsilano Beach is also great for a walk before sitting down for a romantic picnic.

Whytecliff Park is located in West Vancouver near Lighthouse Park and Horseshoe Bay. It is a small but beautiful park, perfect for an outdoorsy date without getting too active. In Whytecliff Park, you’ll find walking paths on the cliffs, a beach and a path to the islet when the tide is low.

The park offers one of the best views of Vancouver’s West Coast. It also offers a unique chance to see wild seals and otters, snuggling on the rocks!

Although you’ll find lots of tours do go see whales and seals around Vancouver, those can be pricy if you’re on a tighter budget. Whytecliff Park offers the possibility to show your partner or your date some of Vancouver’s wildlife and most scenic views without having to spend a dime!

What is better than a nice picnic planned out by your partner and enjoyed in front of some of the best views of the city? 

This one spot is maybe not the one lookout you would place your bet on for a date in Vancouver. The British properties neighbourhood is a residential area in West Vancouver. It sits on the hills away from the crowds and is therefore very quiet. From this neighbourhood, you will be able to enjoy your picnic with views on Lions Gate Bridge, Stanley Park and Downtown Vancouver. 

This is one of the cool places in Vancouver that you should add to your date ideas Vancouver 2023 list. It’s also a great date for rainy or colder days as you can just sit in your car!

There are different levels of escape games. If you’ve never done one, we’d recommend going for the beginner level even if you think it will be too easy. Escape games are well designed and can be quite complex so don’t get more than you can chew! They usually offer a couple of different rooms with different themes too. 20. Gastown Arcade Bar, one of the best date ideas Vancouver offers

Located in Gastown, GRETA is an arcade bar and restaurant. It features over 50 arcade games including the pop-a-shot basketball game, air hockey and Donkey Kong. The food is locally sourced and the menu looks quite delicious. The way it works is you can either go for both arcade and food, buy credits to play the games only or go to the restaurant only.  

Arcade bars are a lot of fun. We love going to the one in Dublin and would recommend this one in Vancouver! It’s a great way to have lunch or dinner together with a unique twist to it! Eric and I have tried virtual reality before together and it’s super fun regardless of whether you’re playing together or not. It’s very immersive so it’s funny to see how your partner reacts to certain things like hanging from a skyscraper in the game!

I’m sorry but what is cuter than a cat cafe in Vancouver? A bunny cafe, of course! This is to me, one of the most romantic dates Vancouver offers. If Eric had taken me to a bunny cafe on our first date (we went for sushi so I can’t complain), I would have married him on the spot! 

At the Vancouver Bunny cafe, you get to meet, snuggle and play with rescue bunnies that are ready for adoption. You don’t have to adopt one though and we wouldn’t recommend adopting one if it wasn’t in your plans in the first place as they are sensitive animals. You can bring your partner and spend an incredibly cute hour with those fluffies. Your ticket also comes with a a veggie cup that you can feed the bunny with.

Big Splash Water Park is located in Tsawwassen in British Columbia. It’s really close to downtown and it is the only park of that nature in the area. It’s a big water park with huge and winding slides, a six storey drop water slide, pools and more.

Dundarave is one of our favourite beach spots in West Vancouver for a date. We love going there and taking a walk on the beach, sitting down and watching the sunset. The view on the West Coast is incredible and it’s just a very serene spot on a clear day. 

You can grab a range of seafood and meat dishes at the Beach House Restaurant and eat them on the beach with one of the best views of Greater Vancouver. Alternatively, if the weather isn’t great, you can eat at the restaurant and still enjoy the beautiful view.

The Salmon House, located on the hills of West Vancouver, is one of the best dinner date ideas Vancouver offers on the North Shore. The restaurant serves a mix of fresh and high-end seafood and meats in a typical Canadian and West Coast themed decor. With wood and large windows, the ambiance is both chic and welcoming. What makes this place special is, of course, the incredible view on Downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge. The view is gorgeous during the summer when it’s light out late and just as beautiful in the winter when it’s dark and the city lights up!

88. Vancouver lookout, one of the best date night restaurants Vancouver offers

The Top Of Vancouver Revolving Restaurant is located at the top of the Vancouver Lookout, one of Vancouver’s top attractions. From up there, you get a 360° view on the city, the North Shore and even Mount Baker in the USA! Although the view is stunning during the day, it’s even more romantic at night when all the city lights are on. This is a greta option for an anniversary dinner Vancouver style!

France is the country of love, so why not bring your date to a French restaurant? Jules is a French restaurant located in Gastown in Downtown Vancouver and one of the best date night Vancouver restaurants. Whether you are looking for a brunch, lunch or dinner date restaurant in Vancouver, Cardero’s is one that I would recommend every time. The menu is great with a mix of fish, seafood and meats but what makes this place special is the location.

Cardero’s is located right on the water in Canada Place. When booking for your date, make sure to ask for a table on the terrace outside if the weather is good or inside by the window if it’s too cold. From there, you’ll have beautiful views on the water, the North shore and the port! If you’re lucky, you might even see a couple seaplanes taking off or landing in the area. 

It’s a beautiful spot for a date!

91. Dinner on an island 

Bundling a cruise and dinner is a great way to spice up the traditional dinner date! With this tour, you’ll be cruising to Bowen Island where you’ll have dinner at one of the island’s top restaurants. Keep your eyes open during the cruise as you have good chances to see marine mammals in the area!

92. Hachi Hana for a lovely sushi date

This is one of Eric and I’s favourite restaurants in Vancouver. Located in North Vancouver, it’s a great spot for a date. We recommend grabbing sushi before heading to either Lonsdale for skyline views of the city or to Lynn Valley for a stunning rain forest experience.

93. The Northern Cafe

The Northern Cafe is a lovely and cute cafe for a romantic breakfast. In a nice atmosphere, you’ll be able to taste some delicious pancakes and other breakfast foods. This is a family-run diner that started back in 1949.

94.L’Atelier Patisserie

Who makes better pastries than the French? Nobody (at least according to Marie). Here you’lll find lots of French baked goods for a romantic breakfast date or for a snack in the afternoon!

95.Mello for Donuts

From regular donuts to brioche donuts, don’t hesitate to bring your partner to Mello for a sweet date in Vancouver. Grab a couple of donuts and go wander in Gastown of Chinatown!

As you see, there are a lot of good date ideas in Vancouver! That said, you might want to get out of the city for a bit, so, in this section, we included some dates ideas near Vancouver.

Although this is one of the activities to do in Vancouver Canada, stargazing from Porteau Cove is also a great date idea! Porteau Cove is a gorgeous area about 40minutes driving from the city. With views on the mountains and the ocean, it is a peaceful place that is also perfect for a day date. At night, there is little to no light pollution, making it the perfect place to look at the stars. Bring your date, a couple snacks and spend some time chatting while looking at the sky!

Are you wanting to take your partner on a full day date? Take them on one of the most romantic road trips in Canada. Think of a couple of car games to pass time in the car. Start by stopping at Shannon Falls about 20 minutes from Vancouver. There you can take a short walk from the parking lot to the waterfall. Then drive to the Sea To Sky Gondola. The Sea To Sky Gondola elevates you to a platform sitting at 885m above Howe Sound, the body of water surrounding Vancouver. From that platform, you have access to the suspension bridge and beautiful views on the Chief and the mountains. There are also some trails you can take to explore more.

This is a very fun date idea no matter the season!

102. Squamish rafting experience to go see bald eagles

Every Winter, the rivers around Squamish fill up with salmon which calls back a large group of bald eagles in the area.  Squamish Rafting offers a rafting experience for all levels to go down the river and rapids and observe the bald eagles! You can learn more about the experience here

Although there are great spas in Vancouver, there is no doubt that Whistler’s Scandinavian Spa is one of the best in BC. The spa is partly indoors and partly outdoors with hot and cold pools, fireplaces and relaxation rooms. It is one of the most relaxing and lovely way to immerse yourself in Whistler. We loved our experience and can only recommend staying as long as you can!

104. Whistler day trip by seaplane

Are you trying to impress your date? Why not head to Whistler by seaplane! From the sky, you’ll be able to see beautiful sceneries such as the glaciers and the whole coast including the Howe Sounds and the Gulf Islands. Once in Whistler, you can head to the Scandinavian Spa or head for the 360 Gondola before taking the seaplane back to Vancouver. This is quite the ride and one that your date will remember!

105. Burnaby Village Museum

If you are looking for date ideas Burnaby has to offer, the Burnaby Village Museum can be a good idea. Once you arrive, you and your date can walk around this village learning about how people lived back in the 1920s. There are demonstrations, shops and cafes to ensure you have the best time. This is a fun out-of-the-ordinary type of date and a cool one if you love history!

106. Burnaby Artisan Farmers Market

Burnaby has quite a few date ideas to offer including the Farmers Market. You will find it in the North Parking Lot at the Burnaby City Hall. There are lots of different stalls selling fresh organic produce. The Market also feature game tables and live music! This is an outdoor activity so we would only recommend it if it’s not raining!

107. Burnaby Blooms Festival

Burnaby is full of surprises! One of the cute dates ideas in Burnaby is heading to the Blooms Festival, formerly known as the Rhododendron Festival. With eco-sculptures, floral instalments, workshops, vendors, and entertainment, there is lots happening at this festival! It takes places in May so this is a great date idea near Vancouver during spring!
