Mary Kathill – Founder & Main Writer

Mary

Mary Kathill, the founder of Be Right Back, started this online publication with a dream in her heart and a passion for love. For her, romance isn’t just a word; it’s about creating special moments, whether in the coziness of home or in the excitement of new destinations. Mary’s (also known as Marie) love for romantic getaways, be they adventurous treks or serene escapes, has been the driving force behind Be Right Back. You can connect with Mary here.

Date Ideas Expert

Over time, Mary has become an expert in shaking up the usual date night routine. She’s always thinking up new ideas to keep the spark alive in relationships. More than this, she develops new ideas, based on her own research and experiences.

But here’s the fun part: she doesn’t just dream up these ideas; she puts them to the test. Together with her husband, Eric, they try out each new date idea. From cozy indoor picnics to starlit outdoor adventures, they experience it first-hand. If a date idea makes their hearts flutter, it’s a winner and gets the green light to be shared with her audience on Be Right Back.

Mary’s favorite date ideas are escape rooms and puppy yoga!

Discovering Couple-Friendly Destinations

Mary’s quest for romantic destinations is never-ending. With Eric by her side, they travel to various places, seeking out those perfect spots for couples. Each journey is an exploration of love and togetherness. After each trip, Mary takes the time to rate these destinations. She considers everything from the atmosphere to the activities that can bring couples closer. Only the best destinations make it onto Be Right Back, ensuring that her readers get the cream of the crop for their romantic escapades.

Mary’s favorite romantic destinations are Ios Island and pretty much any of these US road trips!

Eric – Research & Behind The Scene

Eric’s involvement is key to ensuring that Be Right Back caters to both halves of a couple. His masculine perspective is essential, adding a layer of diversity to our content. This balance ensures that our suggestions and stories appeal to everyone, recognizing the importance of including men’s views in the realm of romance and travel.

Active Contributor in Date Ideas

Eric is not just a researcher; he’s also actively involved in experimenting with Mary’s creative date ideas. His role in trying out these concepts and providing feedback is crucial in shaping experiences that are both enjoyable and authentic, ensuring that what we share with our audience is truly the best.

Eric’s favorite date idea is usually anything related to trying new cuisines!

Research & Perspective

Behind every great destination and idea featured on Be Right Back, there is often Eric’s thorough research and exploratory skills. With his extensive travel experience alongside Mary across Canada, North America and Europe, Eric has become a cornerstone of our brand, offering insightful recommendations on romantic destinations. His knack for uncovering hidden gems and romantic spots plays a significant role in guiding couples to memorable experiences.

Eric’s favorite romantic destination is Greece.

About Eric and Marie

Together, we are Eric and Marie (sometimes Mary), the married couple behind Be Right Back and @berightbackdating

Dating abroad

When we met, Eric and I lived in different countries so we were long distance dating for about a year. We had to be a bit creative to find ways to date while traveling and making the most of our time together.

Then, we moved in together…but abroad! And we moved from country to country: from Northern Ireland to France, then to Canada, then to Madrid, then to Ireland and now to England with a few countries in between! Marie also lived in the USA for a year!

As a result, we became experts on dating abroad and finding great activities for couples in new countries.

Together, we’ve had romantic dates in over 10 countries and many places, including:

Dating at home

Since we’ve been living together, we’ve settled down a bit (but not much don’t worry!) so we’ve gotten really good at finding date ideas that keep the spark and break our routine. Even though we love a good Netflix and Chill night (in the purest sense of it, you naughty!), we love trying new activities for couples whether at home or outside.

That’s why you’ll find hundreds of date ideas on our blog, including dating challenges. From the ones you can do in the morning to funny questions to ask each other to spark up conversation, you definitely won’t get bored! We also share seasonal date ideas, including fall ideas, so you can switch it up throughout the year.

Our Travels

From the first months we were together, we always traveled to romantic destinations. We’ve traveled to dozens of romantic islands, and dozens of romantic destinations, including:

Our love story

Though Marie (French) grew up in France, she also lived in the USA and even went to high school there! Marie also started traveling as a toddler and after coming back to France, Marie only wanted to go live abroad again and was looking for the next great opportunity, little did she know, that next opportunity would actually be the love of her life!

Eric (Canadian) grew up in Vancouver, Canada and was known as the home buddy who would never move abroad…until he wasn’t! In his early 20s, Eric decided he wanted to explore more of the world and moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland to continue his studies. Funny enough, when Marie lived in the USA, she wasn’t very far from Vancouver but now we both were even closer!

On a cold day of February, Eric and Marie met (out of nowhere) in Paris, the city of love. Though Eric did not know one word of French (please don’t be like Eric and learn some French here), he did like French girl Marie!

For about a year, we dated long distance. This was definitely one of the toughest time because all we wanted was to be together! We had to get creative and find some virtual date ideas we could still do together even though we were miles away.

Where we are now

Now, we’re both in our thirties (and thriving…most days huh!). We recently got married and have been together for close to a decade (and counting!).

A lot happened during those years from dating long distance to dating abroad to then moving abroad together. Our date ideas (sometimes the simplest ones) and romantic trips helped us keep our special connection. Through our posts, we want to help couples make their relationship and connection a priority.
