Where to Hang Your DIY Twine Pot Hanger

In Your Living Room

Adding some greenery to your living space can instantly brighten up the room. Hang your pot hanger in a corner to create a cozy, natural nook, or near a window to give your plants plenty of light. The gentle sway of hanging plants can also add a sense of tranquility to your space. If you have a reading nook or a cozy chair, consider placing the hanger nearby to create a serene spot to relax.

On Your Balcony

If you have a small balcony, a twine pot hanger is perfect for maximizing space while adding a touch of nature. Hanging plants can make the balcony feel more inviting without taking up valuable floor space. You can hang multiple pot hangers at different heights to create a cascading effect, which looks beautiful and lush. Plus, the movement of the plants in the breeze can be very calming.

Against the Wall

If you have limited floor space, hanging your pot against a wall is a great option. Choose a pot with one flat side so it sits snugly against the wall without tipping over. This setup is ideal for adding a bit of greenery to your walls, making them more lively and interesting. You can hang it in your kitchen for fresh herbs, in your bathroom for a touch of nature, or even in your hallway to welcome guests with a bit of greenery.

In Your Garden

Enhance your garden’s aesthetic by hanging your pot hanger from a tree or a pergola. Itโ€™s a beautiful way to display trailing plants like ivy or ferns. The natural surroundings of your garden will blend seamlessly with the twine hanger, creating a harmonious look. You can also use it to hang decorative items like lanterns or fairy lights for a magical evening atmosphere.

What to Do

Step 1: Cut the Twine

Cut three pieces of twine, each measuring 150 cm (59โ€). Ensure all pieces are the same length to keep the hanger balanced.

Step 2: Fold and Arrange

Together fold the three pieces in half, so you have six strings hanging. This will be the base structure of your pot hanger.

Step 3: Create the Hook

At the point where you folded the twine, tie a knot to create the loop that will serve as the hook to hang your pot hanger. Ensure the knot is tight and secure.

Step 4: Start Knotting

About 10 cm down from the hook, tie the pieces of twine into knots, two by two. This step forms the initial support structure for your pot hanger.

Step 5: Form the Base

Repeat the knotting process by using alternate strings. Tie the knots approximately 8 cm down from the first set of knots. Adjust this length if you are using a larger pot. This crisscross pattern will create a secure base for your pot.

Step 6: Final Knot and Adjustments

Tie one last knot using all six string lengths, about 5-8 cm down from the last set of knots. This final knot will hold everything in place. Test the hanger with your plant pot to ensure it fits securely. If everything looks good, trim the excess twine to your desired length, or leave it long for a more boho look.

And tadaa! Your macrame pot hanger is ready to be used.

What to Hang in It

You can hang absolutely anything you want in your DIY pot hanger. While it’s perfect for plant pots, you can also use it to hang fake candles, pumpkins, or any sturdy decorative items. Just be mindful of the weight to ensure the twine can support it.

Alternatives

  • Thicker Look: Use jute or rope for a sturdier and more substantial appearance.
  • Four-Sided Hanger: Create a hanger with four sides by using four pieces of 150 cm twine.
  • Decorative Touches: Add beads before tying the knots for a different and decorative look.
