Save to Find It Later!

Ever wonder what British folks might envy about the American way of life? While both countries share a lot, there are a few American perks that Brits might secretly wish they had more of. From sprawling homes to sunnier skies, let’s explore these American features that could make life across the pond even sweeter!

1. Larger Homes

American homes are often much bigger than what we’re used to here in Britain. Over there, it’s common to find sprawling houses with plenty of room for a family to grow and spread out. Here, especially in cities, we’re squeezing into much smaller spaces. Imagine having an extra bedroom or two, a bigger kitchen, or even a basement for storage or a playroom. More space could really change our day-to-day living, making it less cramped and more comfortable.

2. Bigger Salaries in Some Industries

In the US, certain industries offer salaries that can make anyone’s eyes pop. Especially jobs in technology, healthcare, and finance often come with paychecks significantly larger than similar roles here in the UK. This difference in income doesn’t just mean more money in the bank; it can change what you can afford, from homes to holidays, and might even affect your overall quality of life.

3. More National Park Infrastructure

America is known for its vast and well-maintained national parks. They’ve got everything from the deep valleys of Yosemite to the grand vistas of the Grand Canyon. More developed park infrastructures mean easier access to nature’s beauty and more ways to explore it, whether that’s hiking, camping, or just a leisurely day out with the family. It’s something outdoor enthusiasts in the UK would love more of, for sure.

4. Greater Housing Availability

Finding a place to live in Britain can be tough, especially in popular urban areas. In the US, there seems to be more housing available, whether you’re looking to buy or rent. This kind of availability can make it easier for people to find homes they love, without compromising on factors like location, size, or cost. More housing options could really ease the stress of moving and help everyone find their ideal home quicker.

5. More Sunshine in Certain Regions

We Brits often joke about our gloomy weather. In contrast, many areas in the US enjoy loads of sunshine year-round. Places like California and Florida are soaked in sun, creating a lively outdoor culture that’s hard not to envy. More sunny days mean more picnics, more walks in the park, and simply more enjoyable outdoor time. Wouldn’t it be nice to leave the umbrella at home more often?

6. Larger Supermarkets

Ever been to a supermarket in the US? They’re huge! And the variety of products available can be astounding. From countless cereal options to an entire aisle just for cookies, the choices are almost endless. Bigger supermarkets mean more variety and often, better prices. It could make shopping a whole new experience, finding everything you need (and a lot you didn’t know you needed) under one roof.

7. Lower Fuel Taxes

Fuel costs in the US are often lower than in the UK, thanks in part to lower taxes on gasoline and diesel. This makes driving and maintaining a car more affordable. Think about how this could change your daily commute, or your family’s weekend trips. Lower fuel costs could make travel by car a more viable option for more people, making life a bit easier and possibly a bit more fun too.

8. More Domestic Travel Variety

The US is vast, and with that comes a variety of places to visit without even leaving the country. From snowy mountains to desert landscapes, from bustling cities to quiet small towns, the variety is something many Brits would love. More domestic travel options could mean more adventures, more experiences, and more memories, all without the hassle of international travel.

9. Larger Gardens

In America, it’s not uncommon to have a large garden where kids can play and adults can relax or entertain. More outdoor space at home can enhance your living environment and provide a private retreat from the world. Imagine more barbecues, more garden parties, and more space for pets to roam. It’s a feature that would certainly be welcome in many British homes!

10. More Affordable Property Outside Major Cities

In the UK, property prices can skyrocket, especially near major cities. In contrast, the US offers more affordable options not too far from urban centers. This can offer a better quality of life, with less financial stress. More affordable property could mean the chance to own a bigger home, possibly with some of those larger gardens and rooms we dream about, and still have money left for other pleasures.
