Getting a new passport is an absolute pain, we totally agree with that! It can take weeks to get an appointment and then months to receive your new passport, just to be able to go on vacation! So finding destinations that don’t require one can be a life saver! For Americans, there are some destinations that can be visited without the need for a passport.

Of course, we always advise to double check as rules can change quickly. Also note that just because you don’t need a passport to your destination, you may need one to come back to the USA. You may also need a different document to travel with. So always do your own research.

As a U.S. territory, all you need is a valid ID to enjoy its beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and vibrant culture. Whether you’re exploring the historic streets of Old San Juan or relaxing on the shores of Flamenco Beach, Puerto Rico provides a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

2. Canada

While traveling to Canada by air requires a passport, Americans can enter Canada by land or sea (like on a cruise) using a valid U.S. passport card, NEXUS card, or other approved documents according to the Government. This makes the northern neighbor an accessible destination for road trips or cruises, offering diverse landscapes, cultural experiences, and the famous Canadian hospitality.

3. Guam

For cruising to places like Bermuda and the Bahamas, Americans can often use alternative forms of ID, such as a U.S. passport card, Trusted Traveler card (Nexus, SENTRI, or FAST), or an enhanced driver’s license. This makes these popular cruise destinations accessible without a traditional passport.

Though these territories have different voting and rights statuses, Americans can visit them freely without a passport, offering a variety of landscapes and cultures to explore.
