  • Easy to Make: They are super easy to make and only take about 10 minutes. Perfect for a quick crafting session.
  • Reusable: At the end of the season, you can easily undo them and reuse the twine for other projects, making them eco-friendly.
  • Neutral Color: Their neutral color is perfect if you love boho style or want to bring a homey feeling to a modern home. They blend seamlessly with any decor.

What You Need

  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Superglue
  • Empty paper towel roll
  • Painterโ€™s tape
  • A stick (I used the stem of dried pampas grasses)

What to Do

Step 1: Prepare the Twine

Cut a piece of twine slightly longer than the length of your empty paper towel roll so there is a piece hanging from each side. Tape these ends to each side of the roll. This piece will help you tie the pumpkin together later.

Step 2: Start Wrapping

Start wrapping the twine around the roll. Secure the beginning by making a knot. This helps ensure your twine stays in place as you continue wrapping. If itโ€™s your first time, take your time to make sure the knot is tight and secure.

Step 3: Wrap the Twine

Continue wrapping the twine around the roll. The more you wrap, the fuller your pumpkin will look. For a medium-sized pumpkin, wrapping about halfway through the roll is usually enough. You can always adjust the amount of twine based on your preference for size and fullness.

Step 4: Ensure Tight Wraps

Make sure each wrap of the twine doesnโ€™t overlap with previous rounds. This helps in keeping the shape even and neat. Keep the twine tight around the roll for a sturdy pumpkin. If youโ€™re struggling, ask someone to hold the roll for you as you wrap.

Step 5: Finish the Wrap

Once you reach your preferred fullness, cut the twine and tie it off with a knot similar to the one at the beginning. Make sure the knot is secure so your wraps donโ€™t unravel.

Step 6: Remove the Tape

Remove the tape from each side and hold onto the string of twine while sliding the rounds off the roll. This might require a bit of patience if the twine is wrapped tightly.

Step 7: Secure the Shape

Your twine circles should now be gathered around that first piece of twine. Tie this string as tight as possible with a double knot to secure it in place. This step is crucial to keep your pumpkin shape intact.

Step 8: Shape the Pumpkin

Arrange the twine to shape your pumpkin. Spread out the twine evenly to form a round, pumpkin-like shape. Donโ€™t worry if it doesnโ€™t look perfect right away; you can adjust it as needed.

Step 9: Prepare the Stem

Cut two pieces of your wooden stick to about 3 cm each. These will be used as the stem of your pumpkin.

Step 10: Wrap the Stem

Wrap twine around the two pieces of stick, gluing the ends to form the stem. Make sure the twine is wrapped tightly and securely.

Step 11: Attach the Stem

Superglue the stem to the pumpkin. Hold it in place for a few seconds to ensure it sticks well.

And tadaa! Your DIY twine pumpkin is ready to be displayed.

Alternatives

  • Add a Bow: Add a bow to your pumpkin for extra cuteness. You can use any ribbon you have at home.
  • Cinnamon Stick: Use a cinnamon stick for the stem to add a pleasant scent to your home. Itโ€™s a simple way to add an aromatic touch.
  • Pinecone Stem: Use a pinecone as the stem for a rustic touch. Simply glue it on top where the twine is tied.
  • Rope Variations: Replace twine with a rope of different thicknesses to vary the look. Thicker rope will give a chunkier, more robust pumpkin.
