These Are The Most Disappointing Attractions In the USA According To Tourists

Is America perfect? The answer is no! In a recent thread, visitors shared the American attractions that disappointed them the most during their trip to the land of the free.

Some are expected while some are surprising or even a bit unfair. Check them out and let us know if you agree or disagree!

1. The Grand canyon Skybridge

Here’s what a visitor shared about her experience: “The skybridge at the Grand canyon. About 90 dollars so you can walk on scratched glass on one of the least exiting parts of the grand canyon”. Another visitor added: “I don’t understand why so many tourists do this. There’s the entire freakin Grand Canyon RIGHT THERE. For free. Thousands of breath taking views all over. Walking on the trail is scary/thrilling in itself. So many ledges to sit on for the view/thrill. The height aspect from being over the canyon isn’t even close to the best experience you can have there”

Instead, you can drive the south rim of the canyon or even book a helicopter ride to get away from tourists crowds.

2. Los Angeles

From our own experience and conversations, it seems that Americans really dislike Los Angeles. Obviously there are many places in the USA that are stunning but LA can still be a fun and cultural experience if done right.

That said the people have spoken and here’s what they have to say: ” Tourists that cant drive, locals that cant drive, big rigs that cant drive. Most of the city is covered in smog, and unless you have money it’s a suburban hellscape for miles and miles. LAX clearly had next to no planning out into it, which fits with most of the rest of the mass transit system, so that’s nice.”

Some other people defended the city by stating: “There is some cool stuff to see when you know where to go, but I can see how at first glance it gets that impression. I have by now developed a nice collection of sightseeing locations, some off the beaten path, for when friends come to visit and they seem to enjoy it.”

3. Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco

I was appalled to see this mention as one of the most disappointing attractions in the USA but a little reassured when I saw this suggestion didn’t have a lot of support. San Francisco’s rate of homelessness has increased and a lot of tourists have reported it affected their visit in the city.

I’ve always loved San Francisco and Fisherman’s Wharf is definitely one of the cutest area. The seals are also a cute part of the fun at the pier! So i guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.

4. Antelope Canyon

Another one I was surprised to see on this list is Antelope Canyon. Here’s what the visitor mentioned about it: “ou’ve probably seen the iconic images. Don’t get me wrong, it was pretty cool, but it was waaaaay more touristy than I expected (I was being naive though). As soon as I got down into it, I couldn’t wait for the tour to end.”

Fair enough, it gets busy! If you want to avoid crowds, you can visit Antelope Canyon X or kayak to Antelope Canyon.

5. The Corn Palace

The Corn Palace is one of America’s roadside attractions. It’s quirky and definitely unusual. This visitor wasn’t impressed by it though: “Not nearly as cool as it sounds.”

6. Waikiki Beach

People have lots to say about Waikiki beach: “It’s ridiculously crowded, surrounded by expensive stores, tons of traffic, and no parking. It’s basically like any typical downtown area, but with a crappy beach nearby. Under the sand in the kids swimming area there was some kind of cement that cut my foot. So I guess it’s also partially manmade.”

Instead of visiting Waikiki (if that’s not your vibe), check out North Shore, Waimea Valley, and Hanauma Bay.

7. The Arch in St. Louis

Here’s what the visitor had to say about it: “The only thing remotely interesting was the little museum underneath it. I don’t know what I was expecting but… It was just a decrepit monument.”

8. Pikes Place Market in Seattle

One person mentioned Pikes Place Market in Seattle and here’s what they had to say: “It’s over crowded and expensive.” The person also noted being hassled for money which wasn’t a pleasant experience.

9.  Pigeon Forge, TN

The home of Dollywood is not a favorite out there. One visitor shared the following: “It’s a tourist attraction only because it’s a tourist attraction. There’s absolutely nothing there besides outlet malls (where the process are the same as this malls), go kart tracks, overpriced thematic attractions (like the Titanic museum, the Hatfield and McCoy dinner theater, etc) and crappy chain restaurants.”

So what do you think? Do you agree or disagree with these shared experiences?
