We lived in Ireland for years and loved our time there. Ireland is a stunning country and we loved the culture, the laid-back vibe and the people. But there are definitely things that surprised us in the months after moving to the Emerald Isle. After talking to other foreigners, we found that the same points regularly came up so we put this list together to help you with your own move.

1. Layer Up for the Irish Weather

In Ireland, the key to staying comfortable is layering your clothes. We learned that the hard way! You wake up, it’s sunny. But an hour later, it’s hailing and you have no idea why! So it’s better to be prepared. The weather can change unexpectedly, so wearing layers allows you to adapt easily. It’s not unusual to experience a bit of chill even during summer, so having a sweater handy is always a good idea.

2. Get Ready for the Wind

Ireland is known for its windy days, especially along the coast but also in the city. Dublin’s wind was actually so annoying! Every day we would tell each other “it would be so nice if there was no wind”. A sturdy windbreaker or a warm hat can be your best friends, especially when exploring the beautiful Irish countryside or seaside towns.

3. Road Trips Are a Breeze

One of the joys of living in Ireland is the ease of organizing road trips. The country’s compact size means you can experience a diverse range of landscapes within a short drive. From the rocky cliffs of the Wild Atlantic Way to the serene lakes of the Midlands, adventure is never far away.
