If you’re visiting Mt Hotham, they even offer kid-sized snowmobiles, so the little ones can join in on the fun too. Go dog sledding for a cute time with your partner

Whether it’s puppy yoga or dog sledding, we love spending time with doggos! You can also experience the joy of dogs by going dog sledding at Mt Buller in Victoria. You’ll be pulled through the snow by a team of enthusiastic Siberian huskies as you glide through the scenic Alpine National Park. Not only will you have a memorable ride, but you’ll also get to cuddle and interact with these incredible dogs. If you’re in Mt Baw Baw, there are also dog sledding tours available that take you through backcountry trails, and you even have the option of a sunset tour with a glass of wine. Snowy wildlife

While enjoying the snowy landscapes, keep an eye out for Australia’s native wildlife. Cradle Mountain in Tasmania is known for its adorable wombats, providing you with a chance to observe these unique creatures in their natural habitat. Ben Lomond National Park is another great spot, where you might encounter wallabies and wombats. 

Just like when we saw bears in Vancouver or moose in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, observing winter wildlife can be a memorable and special experience. Don’t forget to watch out for other Australian winter wildlife such as horses, kangaroos, possums, and various bird species.

Winter events

We love to go to winter festivals. During winter in Vancouver, we went to Grouse Mountains and its light festival. There we got to snowshoe down a Christmas light path, see reindeers and enjoy local events.

Your turn! Immerse yourself in the winter atmosphere by attending various winter events in Australia. The Peak Festival in Perisher, held in the Snowy Mountains in June, offers a combination of music and mountain vibes, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. 

If you’re in the Blue Mountains, don’t miss Yulefest, where you can cozy up by log fires, savor mulled wine, and enjoy delightful singalongs. DARK MOFO in Hobart and Winter Wonderlights in Sovereign Hill are other popular events that offer unique and enchanting winter experiences. Bathurst Winter Festival in Bathurst is also worth visiting for its charming winter festivities.

Snowshoeing in Australia

For a fun and active winter activity, consider snowshoeing in Australia. Eric and I love to go snowshoeing. We did it in France and in Grouse Mountain in Vancouver. We find it so fun especially for couples as you can race each other or help each other move forward in the snow. 

Strap on snowshoes and explore the winter wonderland on foot. Mt Hotham offers 22 miles of trails for snowshoeing, providing ample opportunities to venture into the snowy landscapes together. 

If you’re in Falls Creek, join a Nordic Snowshoe Tour in Mt Buller or explore the trails in Thredbo. Another option is to embark on a snowshoeing adventure to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak. 

Cradle Mountain in Tasmania also offers snowshoeing opportunities amidst its stunning alpine scenery. Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the snow, get active, and create lasting memories with your partner.

Sleep in Tipi

For a unique and romantic winter accommodation experience, consider staying in a Tipi at Mt Hotham. The Alpine Nature Experience offers the opportunity to snowshoe through the trees to reach your cozy Tipi. 

Enjoy a three-course dinner, including delicious fondue and cake, before gathering around the outdoor fire pit. 

You can also stargaze together at night, marveling at the twinkling sky, and then retreat to the warmth and comfort of your winter wonderland tent. It’s a truly magical and romantic experience, immersing you in the beauty of the snowy landscape while providing a cozy and intimate setting for you and your partner.
