What is Glamour Camping?

Glamour Camping is usually shortened to “glamping” and is a style of accommodation that involves facilities similar to traditional camping but that provide a higher level of comfort. Glamping usually implies staying at a more unique accommodation such as a dome, a pod or a horse caravan.

As such, when going glamping, you won’t need to set up your own tent and won’t need to bring your own beds and mattresses. Glamping can even be luxurious and provide access to a hot tub, a fully equipped kitchen and a proper bathroom in your accommodation.

Glamping is perfect if you like being close to nature and are looking for a unique experience while still wanting to be comfortable.

Is glamping in Wicklow a cheap travel accommodation style in Ireland?

31. Other glamping experiences near Dublin

Best time to come glamping in Wicklow

As an expat’ living in Dublin Ireland, I would be tempted to say that the best time to go glamping in Wicklow is summer. However, summer here can look like fall or winter somewhere else. The temperatures in Ireland are never very high, including during summer and the weather can be quite unstable. We have had lots of rain in July and storms in August!

County Wicklow gets a similar type of weather as Dublin so I would recommend going glamping in Wicklow whenever it suits you! Some of the above accommodations are only open during spring or summer although most of them are open year round. Spring is often considered as the best season in Ireland so it can also be a great option!

Wicklow is also beautiful in the snow and some of the glamping accommodations with hot tubs would be pretty cool then! In the fall, Wicklow has beautiful colours which makes it another great time to visit. Whenever you decide to go Wicklow Mountains glamping, just make sure that you are prepared for the weather. If you are well equipped, then you will have a fantastic stay no matter the weather!

What to bring when glamping in Wicklow

When glamping, you don’t need to bring as much as if you were going camping in Wicklow Mountains. However, there are a few things you will need to bring.

  • Sleeping equipment and towels: Some of the above accommodations do not provide sleeping equipment like pillows and towels so you will need to bring your own. Most of them do though.
  • Charcoal: This is a must if you want to barbecue at some of these properties
  • Layers: The Irish weather is unstable so layers are a must. At least bring tank tops, a fleece and a rain jacket.
  • Hiking shoes: Good hiking or walking shoes are necessary to go around the Wicklow Mountains and go on the spectacular hikes and walks in and near Wicklow.
  • Bathing suit: If you are staying at a glamping site with a hot tub, a bathing suit is definitely needed.
  • Food: A lot of the above glamping sites are a bit isolated and feature a full kitchen and/or a barbecue so bringing your own food is definitely a good idea and will save you money too!
