Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is one of the best bridges in Vancouver and is a beautiful experience you should include to your Vancouver itinerary. The bridge, located in one of the most beautiful parks of Vancouver’s North Shore, is a popular spot which, although no longer secret, is still unknown from a lot of tourists. 

Eric, having lived in North Vancouver for the biggest part of his life, was thrilled to take me to Lynn Canyon suspension bridge so we could explore together. It’s become one of my favourite places in Vancouver to have a date. Now that we have been there several times, it is time for us to share our guide to Lynn Valley suspension bridge with you!

You might be wondering how to get to Lynn Valley suspension Bridge and what Lynn Canyon suspension bridge address is to use with your GPS.

Lynn Canyon suspension bridge address

Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge is located in Lynn Canyon Park, in North Vancouver Lynn Valley. Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge address is 3690 Park Rd, North Vancouver, BC V7J 3K2, Canada. You can enter Lynn suspension bridge address or simply “Lynn Canyon suspension Bridge” directly into your GPS or on your phone map to find it.

Lynn Canyon suspension bridge directions by car

Directions to Lynn Canyon suspension Bridge are quite easy. From Downtown Vancouver, you’ll need to hop on Road 99 and drive across Stanley Park towards the North. Once on the North Shore, take a right turn onto Marine Drive. Keep on Marine Drive until you reach North Vancouver. When approaching Victoria Park and the Lions Gate Hospital, keep straight and take a left turn onto Grand Boulevard and Lynn Valley Road. Remain on that road for a few kilometres until and turn right on Peters Road. In a couple of minutes you will reach Lynn Canyon suspension bridge parking. From the parking lot, directions to Lynn Valley suspension bridge are quite straightforward. You will need to walk just a few metres to find the suspension bridge. 

The parking lot at Lynn Valley Park is not very big and pay parking is in effect seasonally. The fee is C$3 per hour, for a maximum of 3 hours, and is meant to ensure a higher turnover of visitors. However, note that pay parking is only in effect from March to October which is the peak season with the highest number of visitors. If you visit outside of this period (like we did) parking is free. 

How to get to Lynn Canyon suspension bridge by foot

Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is located in the park of the same name which is accessible by foot through the Baden Powell hiking trail. The trail stretches from Deep Cove to West Vancouver Horseshoe Bay. Note that this is a Lynn Valley hike that takes about one to two hours to complete so you need to be prepared and well equipped. 

When is Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge open?

Is Lynn Valley suspension bridge open, you ask? Well, the short answer is yes. Although Lynn Canyon suspension bridge hours are 10am to 4pm for the café and Ecology Centre, the suspension bridge itself is generally always open. 

In 2019, there was a Lynn Canyon suspension bridge closure in order to redo the full deck of the bridge which had worn off with time and had become unsafe. In the past, Lynn Canyon suspension bridge closed also for maintenance of in case of heavy snow, ice or fires. 

Best time to visit Lynn Canyon suspension Bridge

The best Lynn Valley suspension bridge hours to visit are during weekdays or early in the morning. This is a popular spots for both tourists and locals so weekends can get a bit crowded and finding parking might become difficult. 

When it comes to the season, we have been to this suspension bridge Lynn Canyon offers at different times of the year and loved all our visits. Summer is obviously really nice with clear days and the temperatures that can go up to 30°C, making it perfect for a nice walk and swim in the 30 Foot Pool swimming hole. A Lynn Canyon suspension bridge winter visit can also be very nice with the gloomy and misty atmosphere coming forward and giving the site a bit of a Twilight vibe! 

Budget and Lynn Canyon suspension bridge price

If you are looking for “suspension bridge Vancouver free”, then you are in the right place. Lynn suspension bridge is the only free suspension bridge Vancouver offers. A long time ago, visitors were actually charged about ten cents for access to the bridge which was then reduce to five cents. After a while, the bridge became free and has remained free ever since. 

In contrary to Capilano suspension bridge for which entrance is around C$60 per adult, access to Lynn Valley Vancouver suspension bridge is free. This means that you do not need to purchase any Lynn Canyon suspension bridge tickets. 

Note that on top of the free access to the Canyon Parks North Vancouver offers, entrance to the Ecology Centre is also free although there is a suggested donation of C$2 per visit. 

Visit the free Lynn Valley canyon bridge Vancouver offers is therefore a great way to immerse yourself in North Vancouver without spending a dime! 

As explained above, the only cost to feature on your budget to come to Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is parking which costs C$3 per hour for a maximum of three hours to encourage a higher turnover of visitors as the bridge becomes more popular. 

Lynn Canyon suspension bridge vs Capilano suspension bridge

The question of Capilano suspension bridge vs Lynn Canyon Park is one that comes up often in conversations. Capilano and Lynn Canyon are often compared as they are both beautiful parks with feature a suspension bridge. But there are differences between the two, some that might help you decide which to visit between Lynn canyon vs Capilano suspension bridge if you can’t do both.

Capilano Park features one much longer suspension bridge and a number of smaller suspension bridges in the trees called the Treetop bridges, and the cliffwalk. The Park is quite big and there are additional activities such as visiting the Story centre and Raptors Ridge. The Park also organises events throughout the year such as the Canyon Lights at Christmas and the Love lights in January. Capilano Park is also a nice first stop on a road trip to Whistler. Although Capilano suspension bridge park sounds like a lot of fun (and it is!), access to Capilano park costs around C$60 per adult and the sites can get really crowded.

In comparison of Lynn Canyon vs Capilano suspension bridge, Lynn Canyon suspension bridge ticket price is free but the bridge is also much smaller, although it does have a beautiful view and is still quite impressive! Although the suspension bridge Lynn Valley offers is becoming more known, it is still a bit under the radar making it the perfect place for a more intimate and peaceful experience. 

When thinking about whether you should visit Capilano suspension bridge vs Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, you’ll essentially need to take into account your budget and the type of activities you’re looking for!

The park of Lynn Canyon Vancouver opened its doors to the public in North Vancouver in 1912. Its main features, which we detail below, include the following:

• high suspension bridge, 
• a waterfall, 
• the creek, 
• the Ecology Centre,

• the forest, which borders Lynn creek and leads to the pool. It is a feature that is often overlooked by travel guides, although one of the most unique!

Lynn Canyon Park bridge

Lynn Canyon Park and suspension bridge are often associated since the bridge is one of the main features of the park. Just like the park, Lynn Canyon bridge opened to the public in 1912. Located in the 616 acre rainforest, Lynn Canyon Park suspension bridge is a 40 metres (130ft) long bridge that sits about 50 metres (170 ft) above Lynn Creek. 

The bridge deck was originally made of wood. In 2019, the bridge underwent a renovation and has now a brand new deck in a more solid material. Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, Vancouver is quite narrow and only big enough for two people to pass each other at the same time. Although shorter than Capilano suspension bridge, Lynn suspension bridge, Vancouver moves around quite a bit and sways when people are crossing! 

Although, Lynn Creek suspension bridge is part of the Baden-Powel hiking trail, most visitors only come to visit the bridge itself and admire the view. From the Lynn Canyon Park bridge, you can see a beautiful waterfall on one side, Lynn creek below you and the temperate rainforest. 

Movies and TV shows filmed at the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge North Vancouver, BC, Canada

The suspension bridge in Lynn Valley canyon is not only popular among tourists and locals but also among film producers! Lynn Canyon suspension bridge was featured in the Disney movie Descendants as part of the town of Auradon, the homeland to the heroes and villains of the universe of Disney. The Canyon’s pool was featured in the same movie as the Enchanted Lake.

Now, when I was little, my parents loved MacGyver! Little did I know that an episode, called “ The Invisible Killer” also featured the suspension bridge of Lynn Valley, that was going to become one of my favourite places in the world! 

The American anthology series, Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, also featured the Lynn Valley suspension bridge in Episode 44 which aired in 2002. 

The TV show Virgin River also included Lynn Valley suspension bridge and the Lynn Canyon cafe.

You might be wondering if there are any Lynn Canyon Christmas lights during the Holiday season. The short answer is no. Unfortunately, the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge Christmas lights are nowhere to be found and the main Canyon Lights event remains at Capilano suspension bridge and park.

The enchanted forest at Lynn Canyon, Vancouver’s suspension bridge

Although a lot of travel guides about Lynn Canyon suspension bridge Vancouver BC offers include information on the bridge and the park, a review of the forest itself, which is the home of the bridge, is often forgotten. 

To visit the forest, you’ll need to park at the entrance and cross Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, North Vancouver. Once you have crossed the bridge, take a left, which takes you on a boardwalk along the river and through the forest.

At first, it seems that this is just another regular walk through a forest. However, as you start moving forward, you will soon realised that the trees here are quite unique. This is one of my favourite areas of the park! The trees stand tall and differentiate themselves by their crooked and twirled numerous branches covered in moss. This is quite a unique scene transporting you into what some would call a magical or enchanted forest. It does look like the trees are alive and trying to move , almost like they are trying to talk to us. 

The 30 foot pool near Lynn park suspension bridge

When visiting Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, North Vancouver, BC, you definitely need to check out the 30 foot pool swimming hole! First, you’ll need to cross the suspension bridge. Then, you’ll need to turn right and follow the boardwalks along Lynn Creek. Follow the boardwalk down the stairs and through the enchanted forest. After the forest, you’ll start seeing the pool appear on your left. 

Known as the swimming hole, this swimming spot features a nice pebbles beach where people come in the summer to read, relax and tan. From the beach, you have a nice view on Lynn Creek and on the tall cliffs.

This spot is well known of cliff jumpers. However, note that sadly, there has been deaths here before. Although it looks like the water might be deep, it’s not deep enough as to land safely. On your way to the beach, you will notice signs prohibiting cliff jumping for safety. Please do not attempt to jump from the cliffs for your own safety.

If you are looking to go for a swim, we would recommend heading here during summer, although the water remains relatively cold! We have seen people jumping into the water in the winter and definitely wouldn’t recommend that (unless you’re Irish maybe!). 

Hiking trails near Vancouver Lynn Canyon suspension bridge

Although Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is the main attraction in Lynn Canyon Park, it is also part of several very beautiful hiking trails. If you are looking to explore more of Lynn Creek and Lynn Canyon park, then you’ll definitely like one of the following hikes.

Baden-Powell trail

The Baden-Powell trail stretches from Deep Cove to West Vancouver Horseshoe Bay across the North Shore of Vancouver. This is a trail that is accessible for both beginners and experienced hikers. It takes about one to two hours to complete the section that passes through Lynn Canyon Park and on the suspension bridge. 

This Lynn Canyon trail takes you on the boardwalk along the river all the way to the beach and the 30 foot pool swimming hole. Then, you’ll need to go uphill all the way to Twin Falls, another popular spot. To finish up, head up the wooden steps and back to the suspension bridge.

Lynn Canyon loop trail

Another Lynn Canyon suspension bridge hike is Lynn Canyon loop trail. Essentially, this trail loops in Lynn Canyon Park through the forest and along the river. After the suspension bridge, take a right and start walking uphill for about 10 minutes. The trail has lots of cool lookouts to see Vancouver Island and Lynn Canyon. Continue walking to the Second Debris Chute and then head left down the hill in the direction of Lynn Creek and finish at the suspension bridge. 

Twin Falls trail

Twin Falls are two waterfalls and a pool located in the eastern end of Lynn Canyon Park and are usually less crowded than the 30 foot pool. There are several ways to reach Twin Falls. First, you can head down right before crossing the suspension bridge and follow the trail to the river. From there, you’ll need to walk for a little bit to the Twin Falls bridge. Once at the bridge, you’ll have to climb down the river bank and possibly cross the river. Second, you can choose to cross the suspension bridge and turn right following the boardwalk towards the East. 

Lynn Headwaters and Rice Lake

If you are looking for an easy trail, Lynn Headwaters is really nice. There is also a trail that loops around Rice Lake. Note that swimming in the lake is no longer allowed. 

Lynn Canyon suspension bridge and Ecology Centre

Another thing to do near Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is visiting the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre. At the Ecology Centre, you will learn about the history of the park and you can buy some souvenirs as well. This is also where you can get some maps of the trails. The Ecology Centre is free and donations are encouraged.

Amenities at Lynn Canyon suspension bridge

Right next to the suspension bridge, you will find Lynn Canyon Cafe where you can get a snack or a drink after a long day of exploring Canyon Lynn Park. As far as food is concern, Lynn Canyon cafe serves crepes for breakfast but also hot dogs, pasta, burgers and fish and chips for lunch. 

There also washrooms on site.

North Vancouver, and Lynn Valley are a great location to stay when coming to visit the greater Vancouver area, especially if you’re looking to explore the outdoors. Here are some hotels we recommend:

Things to do near Lynn Canyon suspension bridge

Capilano

We have mentioned it before but obviously, Capilano suspension bridge is also worth a visit if you have got the time. In addition, Capilano lake with the view on the Lions and the Cleveland Dam are worth visiting as well. For a tour of the North Shore including the Cleveland Dam and the Capilano suspension bridge, this tour is great.

Deep Cove

From the beach to hiking to Quarry Rock, Deep Cove is an area of the North Shore that is also worth visiting.

Horseshoe Bay lookout 

Horseshoe Bay is located in West Vancouver and is a statement of the North Shore. But one special place you really need to visit if the Horseshoe Bay secret lookout platform.

West Vancouver trestle bridge 

Opened in December 2021, the trestle bridge in West Vancouver is a gem that isn’t very well know yet. The beautiful view on Vancouver and the scenery is worth a quick stop!

Lonsdale Quay

Just a few minutes away from Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, Lonsdale Quay offers one of the most beautiful views of Vancouver’s skyline.

Grouse Mountain

Whether you are looking for some elevation or just wanting to go skying, Grouse Mountain is a great day trip from Vancouver! You can buy tickets for the Gondola here. For a combo tour including Grouse Mountain, you can book this tour. 

The Pipe bridge

The Pipe bridge is a wooden bridge above which a big pipe crosses. It is one of the entrances to Lynn Canyon Park and Rice Lake and offers beautiful views on the canyon. It also connects to the Baden-Powell trail. To reach the Pipe Bridge from Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, head left towards the 30 foot pool swimming hole and then up the staircase.
