Is a hiking date a good idea for couples?

Is hiking a good date for couples? In our experience, absolutely! There are so many reasons why going on a hiking date is a fantastic idea for a couple or two people who can potentially become a couple. Not only is it a great way to get to know your partner better, but it also allows you to spend quality time together while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Eric and I are big fans of walks and hikes as it allows us to really connect together. Here are reasons why hiking dates are great for couples!

See your date for who they are and vice versa

When you go on a hiking date, you get to see your partner in a completely different light, especially if you’re used to seeing them after work, at hoe or if you met them at a club. Being in nature reveals people. For example, there’s no need to worry about makeup or fancy clothes. Though some girls will decide to wear makeup on a hiking date, it’s actually a good occasion to show yourself naturally to your date. If they’re not happy with your makeup free face, you will know not to waste any more of your time with them.

You also get to see your partner in their natural state when it comes to their behaviours. This can be a great way to see how your date reacts to physical exertion. Does your partner complain a lot? Or do they embrace the challenge? Do they get impatient because you’re slow? You will be able to see if there are any red flags in your date.

Hiking can also be a great way to see if your date is a nature lover. Nature lovers tend to be calmer, more patient and also happier. Though everyone is allowed to get angry and impatient sometimes, these are good qualities that make people great life partners.

Building team spirit between two partners

Hiking is a great way to build teamwork skills. Some sections of the hike may be harder than others, with boulders to climb or rivers to cross. When Eric and I hiked Lough Ouler, the heart-shaped lake in Wicklow, we had to cross a river and go down muddy and slippery slopes. It was an experience and working together is what took us back to the car!

These hiking date situations provide an opportunity to work together and see how you complement each other. Do you both work together seamlessly, or does one of you get impatient? Can you count or your date or are they walking 20 feet in front of you? Hiking can provide valuable insights into your partner’s personality and how well you work together.

Nature is key for connection

Spending time in nature can be a great way to encourage long conversations and make it easier to connect with your partner. There’s something about being surrounded by nature that can help you feel more relaxed and at ease. For example, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and look at the beautiful scenery together. This can help you appreciate the beauty of nature and your partner. In our experience, nature takes us away from all the technology that surrounds us today. Whether you are dating in Utah, Dallas or Santa Barbara, hiking in nature helps you connect! This means, no cell-reception, no phone, no computer. It gives our brains a break to just be where our feet are. When we hike together, we’re focused on our relationship and spending quality time together. That’s why we love hiking as a date!

Opportunities to show affection

Hiking provides ample opportunities for affection. that’s also why we made it one of the outdoors 52 date ideas for a whole year. You can hold hands, ask each other if you’re going too fast or too slow, and look after each other’s needs. Hiking can also provide an opportunity to hug each other while taking in a beautiful view. These little moments of affection can help you feel closer to your partner and strengthen your bond.

Hiking in public

For a first or second date, hiking can be a safer option than some other activities. Because you’ll be in a public place, it can help you feel more at ease and reduce any awkwardness. Additionally, hiking is a great way to spend time together without the pressure of constantly having to come up with conversation topics.

Flexible schedule

One of the great things about a hiking date is that it’s flexible. You can plan it in advance or decide to go on a whim. If the date is going well, you can take your time and enjoy each other’s company. Alternatively, if the date isn’t going as planned, you can always cut the hike short and head back.

Opportunities to prolong the date

Hiking together is a fun way to connect or get to know each other. But going on a hike also offers lots of opportunities for couples to prolong the date. For example, you could turn your hiking date into a date at the beach if you are located by the sea. After walking for a while, there’s nothing like relaxing on the beach like you would for a date in Santa Barbara or going for a swim to relax your muscles.

Alternatively, you cold turn your hiking date into a romantic time at the spa to get a couple’s massage together. This will help your body relax from the strenuous hike while increasing the level of connection between you two. One of our favourite romantic things to do in Dublin when we lived there was to head to the local spa after having hiked to the beach!

Other opportunities to prolong the date after a hike is going to hot springs to relax your muscles in a beautiful natural scenery. You can also hike to hot springs like you would in Lake Tahoe or to hot ponds in Hawaii, making it a two dates in one!

Is hiking a good first date?

In our experience, the answer is yes, hiking can be a great first date activity, but only if certain conditions are met.

Many people wonder if hiking as a first date is a good idea. We understand why people may wonder this. First dates can be tricky to get right and you don’t want to scare off your potential future partner. You also probably want to appear as the best version of yourself which being sweaty with hiking gear might not make possible.

Though we go more into details about whether hiking is a good first date idea here, we wanted to give you a summary here.

First and foremost, before organising a hiking first date, we recommend that you have met the person before and have established a connection. Meeting for a snack beforehand can be a great way to get to know each other a little better and establish a level of comfort. This also provides an opportunity to gauge whether there is chemistry and whether you feel safe around the person. If you don’t, then you have an opportunity to leave before actually heading on the hike.

Another critical factor to consider when planning to go hiking on a first date is safety. It is crucial to ensure that there are no red flags and that you feel comfortable with the person you are going hiking with. Red flags can include someone insisting on going to a remote location or insisting on going on a made-up trail. It is also not recommended to go hiking with someone who has been drinking alcohol beforehand. If the vibe is off, it is better to trust your instincts and decline the invitation.

Why is hiking a good idea for a first date?

Now that we’ve covered that a hiking date is great for a first date, we will explain, why it is from our experience.

A first date on a public trail

One of the benefits of hiking as a first date activity is that it is typically done on public trails. This provides a level of safety and allows for other people to be around if you ever need help. This can be especially reassuring if you are going on a first date with someone you have only just met or met through an app.

Being outside means it’s easier to connect

Hiking is also an excellent option because it takes place outside. Being in nature can help to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, making it easier to connect with your date on this first meeting. From our experience, walking and talking in a natural setting can make it easier to open up and share personal stories, leading to a deeper connection.

Hiking as a first date avoids awkward silences

Hiking can also be a fun activity to explore your surrounding areas together. It can be a good icebreaker and a way to avoid awkward silences. Exploring your surroundings and taking in the scenery can provide for both of you as a natural conversation starter and keep the date flowing smoothly.

A nice scenery makes it more romantic

Drop the usually dinner and a movie for a beautiful scenery instead! A hiking date beautiful scenery can make hiking a very romantic activity. This is actually one of our tips for hiking date ideas: doing the hike somewhere stunning. The natural surroundings can create a romantic atmosphere and provide a backdrop for memorable moments. Whether it’s watching a sunset like in Oahu or enjoying a beautiful view, hiking can be a unique and memorable experience that brings you and your partner closer together. Hopefully, it will be memories that will make you want to go on a second date!

How to make a hiking date romantic?

A love and hiking date for couples is a wonderful way to connect with nature and your partner. Whether it’s a first date or an anniversary celebration, adding a touch of romance to a hike can make the experience even more special. In this article, we share our most romantic hiking date ideas so you can have the best experience with your date.

For a memorable hiking date: Pick a hike with stunning viewpoints

One way to add romance to a hike is to choose a trail with breathtaking viewpoints. A scenic hike with stunning views is an excellent opportunity for you and your partner to appreciate the natural beauty around you and create unforgettable memories. Eric and I have hiked together in many countries and the breathtaking sceneries always brought us closer together, just as if time had stopped. Some of our memorable romantic trails include Monument Valley hikes at sunrise, the Antelope Canyon trail accessible by kayak, or the Killiney hike in the south of Dublin, which all have spectacular views.

Another hike we did together brought us to one of the most romantic spots in Ireland. This was Lough Ouler, the heart-shaped lake of Ireland. What’s more romantic than hiking to a heart-shaped lake with your partner?

Choose a wide trail for more romance

We speak from experience when saying that wide trails are a must when going on a hiking date. Eric and I did a hike in Howth Ireland where the trail was so narrow that we had to walk behind each other for about 30 minutes. This wasn’t so enjoyable as we couldn’t talk to each other or appreciate the view together.

Opting for a wide trail can also enhance the romantic atmosphere of a hiking date. A trail that provides enough space for you and your partner to walk side by side and enjoy the scenery together can create an intimate connection. A trail like this also allows you to have conversations, free from distractions and other hikers. This can help you and your partner to bond and deepen your connection.

Pick a hike that leads to waterfalls

Waterfalls are another great feature to look out for when choosing a hiking trail on a date. Hiking to a waterfall can create a magical and romantic atmosphere, with the sound of falling water and the mist surrounding you. Waterfalls can be quite majestic so they will usually take our breath away and create moments where we feel like cuddling or kissing. Shannon Falls hike, north of Vancouver , the Bender Mountain Trails in Cincinnati and the Devil’s Den in the Wicklow Mountains are great examples of hikes to waterfalls that we did and that provide a serene and romantic atmosphere.

Pick a hike along the river

Hiking along a river can be an excellent way to add some romance to a hike. A riverside hike can be calming and peaceful, with the sound of the water providing a soothing backdrop. The gentle flow of the river can also make for a lovely and serene walk. It is an ideal setting to spend quality time with your partner, enjoy each other’s company, and create special moments.

Create a romantic hike with fun sections like a suspension bridge

Choosing a hike with fun sections like a suspension bridge can also add a touch of excitement and romance to your hike. One of our absolute favourite romantic hikes is the Lynn Canyon hike in Vancouver. The thrill of walking across a suspension bridge can create a unique and exhilarating experience for you and your partner. The suspension bridge in Lynn Valley is an excellent example of a fun and romantic section of a hiking trail.

Turn your day hike into a romantic scavenger hunt

Eric and I love scavenger hunts and we often create some for each other. What’s great is that they had some fun to your hike to switch things up. It’s a great way to surprise your date and show them that you are full of surprises.

To make your own, create a list of items to find along the trail, like a specific plant, a certain type of rock, or a particular view. You and your partner can work together to find the items, adding an element of teamwork and fun to the hike. This can be a great way to create a unique and memorable experience with your partner. You can do this in nature and when hiking around cities for example if you’re dating in Dallas or going on a hike date in Boston.

Hike at sunrise with a breakfast picnic

Hiking at sunrise with a breakfast picnic can also add a touch of romance to a hiking date. The serene and peaceful setting of a sunrise hike, with the first rays of light breaking over the horizon, can create a magical atmosphere. A breakfast picnic with your partner can provide an opportunity to bond and enjoy each other’s company in a tranquil setting. Arches National Park sunrise hike is an excellent example of a breathtaking and romantic sunrise hike.

Hike at sunrise with breakfast at a cute cafe afterwards, another hiking date idea

If you’re not up for a breakfast picnic, you can still enjoy a romantic sunrise hike by heading to a cute café for breakfast afterwards. This can be a great way to extend the experience and enjoy a delicious meal together. The calm and peaceful atmosphere of a sunrise hike followed by breakfast at a café can create a romantic and memorable date.

Go on a sunset hike with a dinner picnic for a great date night idea

Watching the sunset with your partner is a romantic and breathtaking experience. At least, it’s one of our favourite alphabet date ideas that start with an S! We love to hike in Greece for example to see some of the most beautiful European beaches sunsets! We recommend that you plan your hike so that you arrive at a scenic spot with a clear view of the sunset before sunset starts. You can prepare a simple picnic dinner with some snacks, sandwiches, and a bottle of wine. Bring a blanket to sit on and some candles to create a romantic ambiance. Enjoy your dinner as you watch the sun go down and the stars come out.

Insider Tip: We highly recommend only doing sunset hikes for a date at a spot that is easily accessible, including when it’s dark. For example, we wouldn’t recommend heading to the Cox Bay Lookout on Vancouver Island for sunset as it will be pitch black when coming back, unless you’re well equipped. Some trails can be muddy and slippery which makes it even more of a challenge.

Hike during golden hour and then dinner

Golden hour, which is the time shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the light is soft and warm, is a beautiful time to take photos and enjoy nature with your partner. Plan a hike that starts a few hours before sunset so that you can enjoy the golden hour and then have dinner at a nearby restaurant. Choose a restaurant with a cozy atmosphere, good food, and a view of the sunset.

Gift ideas on a romantic hike

To make your hiking date even more romantic, we recommend considering giving a gift or several gifts to your date during your hike. The gifts don’t have to be complicated. The more thoughtful they are the better. For example, you could make a ring out of a flower. You could also offer your date a beautiful flower saying its beauty makes you think of them. Small attentions and gift ideas along the hike will definitely make an impression!

Add alpacas to the hike!

Eric and I have gone alpaca trekking before when we lived in Ireland and thought that was such a cute added touch to a regular hike! It’s become one of our favorite A date ideas. The hike was easy through a magical forest and the alpacas were super cute. The walk with the alpacas created a relaxed and cute atmosphere which made us connect better!

How to flirt on a hike

In this section, we included some hiking date tips for those who would like to flirt on the hike while being respectful.

Compliment each other

In our experience, everyone loves a compliment! Take the time to appreciate each other’s appearance, personality or hiking skills. You can say something like “You look amazing in that hiking outfit,” or “I love how determined you are on this trail.” These are a good way to show your appreciation to your date while also making them feel confident.

Share food together

One way to flirt on a hiking date is to share food together. You can bring some snacks or a picnic to share with your partner and feed each other bites of food.

Add some physical touch

Hiking provides ample opportunities for physical touch. You can hold hands, offer a helping hand on a challenging trail, or give each other a congratulatory hug when you reach your destination. If you’re not up for too much proximity, you can also give each other a high five or create a special celebratory hand shake!

Be playful

Hiking can be a playful and adventurous activity. Have fun by playing games like “I spy” or “20 questions,” or race each other up the trail. These are way to subtly flirt with each other. Don’t forget to use your eyes to flirt and be even more playful!

Show interest to your partner on the hiking date

Take the time to ask your partner questions about themselves and listen intently to their responses. Show genuine interest in their life and experiences. This will make them feel cared for and like you are genuinely interested in what they have to say. It will contribute to grow the closeness between you. If you’ve been together for a while, it’s a good way to maintain the connection between you two.

Take in the view together

Whether it’s your first date or your 10th anniversary, we all sometimes forget to look at our partner and remember how much we love them. We also forget how beautiful the world is and how our partner makes it even more beautiful. Every time Eric and I travel together to romantic places, it reminds us of how beautiful the world is and how lucky we feel to share our experiences with each other. Hiking provides stunning views that can be shared and appreciated together. Take the time to stop and enjoy the scenery, and use the opportunity to cuddle up and take in the view.

Take pictures together

Capture memories of your hike together by taking pictures along the way. This can provide a fun and playful way to flirt and create lasting memories. Capture the memories of your hiking date by taking pictures along the way. Bring a camera or use your phone to take pictures of the scenic views, wildlife, and each other. These pictures will serve as a reminder of your romantic hiking date and can be shared on social media or printed out for your photo album. We have taken many photos over the years of us hiking and love looking back at them!

Respect each other

Remember to be respectful and mindful of your partner’s boundaries. Flirting should be fun and light-hearted, and never cross the line into making your partner feel uncomfortable.

Practical considerations for going on a hike dating experience

Planning a hiking date with your partner can be a fun and romantic way to spend time together in nature. However, it’s important to consider some practical factors before hitting the trail. Here are some practical considerations to keep in mind when planning a hiking date.

Choose a hike for your levels

When choosing a hiking trail, it’s important to consider both you and your partner’s fitness levels and experience. You don’t want your hiking date to turn into a catastrophe and your partner to end up hurt, or worse, grumpy!

Choose a trail that is suitable for both of you and that you will both enjoy. Remember, you’re not trying out for the Olympics! If one of you is more experienced, consider a trail that offers some challenges, but not too difficult for the less experienced partner. Keep in mind that the goal is to have a fun and enjoyable time together.

Remember to hydrate

Staying hydrated is essential when hiking, especially in warm weather but also when the wind is strong. Make sure to bring enough water for both of you and consider bringing some electrolyte drinks or snacks to replenish your energy levels. It’s also a good idea to bring a refillable water bottle that you can fill up at water stations along the way.

Will there be shade?

Consider the weather conditions and whether or not the trail offers any shade. Hiking in direct sunlight can be exhausting and uncomfortable, especially during the summer months. Choose a trail that offers some shade or plan your hike for a cooler time of day, such as early morning or late afternoon. We’ve been to places like Greece of Arizona, where hiking without shade is sometimes impossible.

Pick a quieter hike

While popular trails can offer beautiful views and interesting sights, they can also be overcrowded and detract from the romantic atmosphere of your hiking date. Consider choosing a less popular trail or going on a weekday when there are fewer people around. This will give you and your partner more privacy and the chance to enjoy each other’s company without distractions.

Arrange transportation

Make sure to plan how you and your partner will get to the hiking trail and back. Consider carpooling, taking public transportation, or renting a car if needed. Make sure to factor in the time it takes to get to the trailhead, as well as the time it takes to complete the hike. It’s also a good idea to have a backup plan in case of unforeseen circumstances, such as bad weather or a trail closure.

Reasons to avoid a hiking date

From our experience, going on a hiking date can be a great way to spend time together in the great outdoors, but it’s not for everyone. Here are some reasons why you may want to avoid a hiking date and consider other options instead.

Your partner (or you) doesn’t like hiking

If you or your partner simply don’t enjoy hiking, then it’s probably not the best date idea for you. Hiking can be a physically demanding activity and requires some level of interest in the outdoors. If you both prefer indoor activities or something more low-key, then a hiking date may not be the best fit. Alternatives to hiking dates include walking on a boardwalk, or organising a walking date at the beach. These are usually less strenuous but with some element of walking.

Bad weather

Hiking in bad weather can be dangerous and unpleasant. Heavy rain, strong winds, or extreme temperatures can make the hike uncomfortable and potentially hazardous. It’s important to check the weather forecast before heading out on your hike and reschedule if necessary. Safety should always come first. Eric and I have hiked in bad weather and we don’t recommend. We usually end up irritated which is definitely not the point of putting together a romantic date!

The hike is too hard

Choosing a hike that’s too difficult for either of you to handle can also make for an unpleasant experience and make your date grumpy. There’s nothing worse than feeling like your partner doesn’t know you well enough to pick a suitable hike! It’s important to choose a trail that matches your fitness levels and hiking experience. Going on a trail that’s too challenging can lead to fatigue, injuries, or just an unpleasant time.

Not enough food

Hiking requires a lot of energy, so it’s important to bring enough food and snacks to keep you fueled throughout the hike. If you or your partner forget to bring enough food or water, it can quickly turn into a bad experience. Eric and I are experts on bringing enough food after we’ve had a couple of hangry experiences! On top of affecting our moods, running out of food or water can lead to fatigue, dehydration, or even fainting. Make sure to bring enough food and water to sustain you throughout the hike.

Getting stuck with a creep

Hiking trails can attract all types of people, and unfortunately, not all of them have good intentions. If you’re going on a hiking date with someone you don’t know well, it’s important to take precautions to ensure your safety. Always let someone know where you’re going and who you’re with, and avoid hiking in secluded areas or at night. It’s also a good idea to bring a phone and a whistle in case of emergencies.

Trust your gut

If you feel suspicious of your date, then it’s best to trust your instincts and avoid going on the hike altogether. If your date is insisting on going to a remote location, doesn’t want to meet beforehand or is displaying any red flags, it’s best to avoid going on the hike altogether. Your safety should always come first, and it’s important to listen to your intuition.

If your date is drinking or making you drink before the hike

Drinking alcohol before going on a hike is never a good idea. It can impair your judgment and coordination, making the hike unsafe and unpleasant. It’s important to avoid alcohol before the hike and save the drinks for after the hike. If your date is the one drinking, this can impact your safety as drunk people can act insensitively and can sometimes become aggressive. Avoiding drinks beforehand will ensure that you’re both alert and able to enjoy the hike to its fullest potential.

Where to find the right trail for a hiking date

  • Google: Us along with other bloggers share many information about romantic hikes and trails in the world. Sometimes, the small hike nearby is just as romantic though! So don’t forget to check your local area.
  • Facebook groups: There are many Facebook Groups that share the best hikes in different areas. You can join your local Facebook Group along with the ones that talk about any destinations you may be going to. There, you can ask for recommendations.
  • All Trails: All Trails is like a hiking dating app. It is like one of those dating sites for hikers where everyone shares the best hikes and tips about them. Before heading on a hike, we recommend checking the state of the trail on this website as people will regularly update it.
  • Official government websites: Government and national Parks websites usually share the best trails in the area along with the conditions of the trails. Note that in many national parks, trails can be closed because of snow or fires so it’s always a good idea to check beforehand.

How to stay safe on a hiking date

Hiking is a great activity for a date, but it’s important to prioritize safety to ensure a memorable and positive experience. Whether you’re planning your first date or have been with your partner for a while, these tips will help you stay safe on your hiking adventure.

Watch the weather

Checking the weather before the hike is an important aspect of planning a hiking date. Make sure you’re aware of any potential weather hazards such as thunderstorms or extreme heat, and plan your route accordingly. If the weather turns during the hike, it’s best to cut your date short and head back to the car.

Tell a friend if it’s early in the relationship

It’s always a good idea to let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to be back, especially if you’ve just started dating. Eric and I have known each other for years and obviously are safe together but when you start dating, you never know the person you’re meeting with. If something goes wrong, your friend will know where to start looking. You can share the details of your hike with a friend, including the name of the trail, the estimated time of arrival, and how long you plan to be gone. We also recommend sharing who you’re going on a date with.

Mention to your date that your fiends know your plans

Letting your date know that someone else is aware of your location, plans and who you’re with can help put them at ease and encourage transparency. This can also serve as a way to let them know that your safety is a priority and that you’re taking precautions. Of course, if they had planned something bad, it also lets them know that if something happens to you, people will know who you were with.

Follow the trails

When on a hiking date, it’s crucial to stick to designated trails, especially if you’re not an experienced hiker. Straying from the path can increase the risk of getting lost or injured, so it’s important to stay on the trail and not wander off into the wilderness.

Wear the right hiking gear

Wearing appropriate gear can make all the difference in your hiking experience. Make sure you wear comfortable, supportive footwear and dress in layers that are appropriate for the weather. Always carry a small backpack with essentials like water, snacks, sunscreen, and a first-aid kit. You may also want to bring a map or GPS device, a whistle, and a headlamp or flashlight in case of emergencies. But we’ll share more on this below.

Meet in a public place beforehand

Meeting in a public place before the hike can help you feel more comfortable and get to know each other better. A coffee shop or cafe is an excellent location to meet before the hike, and it provides a relaxed atmosphere for conversation. Meeting beforehand also gives you an opportunity to share your plans and expectations for the day. Of course, it also gives you an out if the vibes are off!

What to bring on a hiking date

Going on a hiking date can be an exciting and fun experience, but it’s important to make sure that you are well-prepared for the adventure ahead. Here are some essential items that we recommend bringing on your hiking date to ensure you have a comfortable and safe journey.

Reusable Water Bottle

We always carry a reusable water bottle everywhere we go, including on a hiking date. You and your partner should stay hydrated throughout the hike to avoid any discomfort or health issues. A reusable water bottle is not only environmentally friendly, but it’s also more practical than disposable ones as you can fill it up at any water station.

Don’t forget the snacks

Bringing snacks along on a hiking date can make the journey more enjoyable. Snacks like pretzels, nuts, chips, and fruits like apples and bananas are perfect for a quick energy boost on the trail. It’s important to make sure that the snacks are easy to carry and won’t get crushed or damaged.

Picnic food

If you’re planning to have a picnic during your hiking date, then make sure to bring appropriate food items. Some easy-to-pack options include sandwiches, wraps, salads, cheese and crackers, and fruits. Make sure to bring utensils and plates if necessary.

Sunscreen

I (Marie) have a history of fair skin so I know bringing sunscreen is a must for me when going hiking. Eric always thinks that his tan skin can resist the sun, until he burns and decides that, actually, he also needs sunscreen. Don’t be like us, don’t hesitate and wear sunscreen! Hiking in the sun can be damaging to your skin, so it’s important to bring sunscreen with you. Note also that we have burnt in the winter before including when the sky was cloudy so don’t get tricked by the grey weather, you can still burn!

Bug spray

If you’re hiking in an area with mosquitoes or other insects, then bug spray is a must-have item. Apply the bug spray on exposed skin and clothing to keep the bugs away.

Sunglasses

Protecting your eyes from the sun’s glare is essential during a hiking date. Bringing sunglasses with you is a good idea, especially if you’re hiking during the day. Sunglasses will also provide a clear view of the surroundings and make the hike more enjoyable.

A backpack

Bringing a backpack is a great way to carry all of your essential items. It’s important to choose a backpack that fits comfortably and has enough space for your items. Consider a backpack with a hydration system that allows you to drink water without having to take off the backpack.

Trash bag

Bringing a trash bag along on your hiking date is essential for keeping the trail clean. You and your partner should always pack out everything you bring on the hike, including any food wrappers, empty water bottles, and tissues.

Paper towels

Paper towels are great for cleaning up any spills during your hiking date. They can also be used to wipe sweat or rainwater off your face.

Towel for the picnic

If you’re planning to have a picnic during your hiking date, then bring a towel to sit on. A towel will protect your clothes from any dirt or dampness on the ground.

First aid kit

A first aid kit is an essential item to bring on a hiking date. It should contain band-aids, antiseptic wipes, gauze pads, tweezers, and pain relievers. Make sure to know how to use each item in the first aid kit.

Tick removal tool for a worry free hiking date

If you’re hiking in an area with ticks, then bringing a tick removal tool is a good idea. It’s important to check for ticks after the hike, especially in areas with high grass or bushes. Make sure to follow proper instructions on how to use the tick removal tool.

Toilet paper

Bringing toilet paper on a hiking date is essential for being prepared in case of unexpected bathroom breaks on the trail. It shows your thoughtfulness and consideration for your partner’s comfort and well-being.

What to wear on a hiking date

Though we have a dedicated post on what to wear on a hiking date, we wanted to include a quick section on what to wear for a hike date.

When going on a hiking date, it’s important to dress comfortably and appropriately for the outdoors. You want to be able to move freely and enjoy the experience without being held back by uncomfortable clothing or shoes.

What to wear on a hiking date girl outfits

  • Leggings or shorts are great options as they allow for ease of movement and won’t restrict you during the hike.
  • A T-shirt or tank top is also recommended, as it’s lightweight and breathable for warm weather hikes.
  • A baseball hat is a good option to protect your face from the sun and keep your hair out of your face.
  • Hiking date makeup: Opt for light makeup or no makeup at all, as a natural look is perfect for a hiking date.
  • Sneakers or hiking boots are important to have on to ensure you have proper support and grip on the trail.

What to wear on a hiking date guy outfits

  • Comfortable joggers or shorts are great options for men, as they allow for ease of movement during the hike.
  • A T-shirt is also recommended, as it’s lightweight and breathable for warm weather hikes.
  • A baseball hat is a good option to protect your face from the sun and keep your hair out of your face.
  • Sneakers or hiking shoes are important to have on to ensure you have proper support and grip on the trail.
  • When dressing for a hiking date, it’s important to also consider the weather conditions. If it’s hot outside, wear clothing that is breathable and lightweight. If it’s cooler, make sure to bring along an extra layer like a jacket or sweatshirt for a comfortable hiking date outfit winter style.

It’s also important to wear clothing that you feel confident and comfortable in. If you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable in your clothing, it may affect your mood and overall experience on the hiking date.

Finally, consider dressing in a way that matches your partner’s style. If your partner prefers a more athletic look, dress accordingly. If your partner prefers a more casual look, dress accordingly as well. This can help to create a sense of unity and connection during the hiking date.

Hiking date principles

Hiking is an excellent way to connect with nature and your partner. It can be a romantic and rewarding experience, but it is essential to follow certain principles to make sure that your trip is both safe and enjoyable. Here are some fundamental hiking principles that we recommend to keep in mind before you set out on your hiking date.

Leave No Trace Principle

One of the most important principles to follow while hiking is the Leave No Trace principle. This principle is designed to ensure that we leave the natural environment in the same state as we found it, by minimizing our impact on the environment. The Leave No Trace principle includes:

  • Plan ahead and prepare: bring trash bags to collet your garbage and don’t leave your waste in nature.
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces: Only cam where it doesn’t interfere with the wilderness.
  • Dispose of waste properly.
  • Leave what you find: Do not pick out natural elements like sands or seashells.
  • Minimize campfire impact.
  • Respect wildlife.
  • Be considerate of other visitors.

Respect consent

It’s important to remember that consent is crucial, and that you should respect your date’s consent at all time, including on your hiking date. Make sure that both you and your partner feel comfortable and safe throughout your hiking experience. Always ask for permission before taking photos or sharing any information about your partner, including their name or location. If your partner expresses discomfort or wants to stop the hike, respect their wishes and return home.

Be wildlife friendly

Another important principle to follow on your hiking date is to respect wildlife. It is essential to maintain a safe distance from any wild animals you encounter while hiking, and to never feed them. Feeding animals can cause them to become reliant on human food and can lead to aggressive behavior. In National Parks, ensure that you show your food out in the special bear proof garbage cans like we saw in Sequoia National Park!

Additionally, if you’re hiking with your dog, keep them on a leash to prevent them from disturbing wildlife or getting lost. By respecting wildlife, you can help protect the environment and ensure the safety of both you and your partner.
