Central Location

• Fira town is central on the island and is close to every important sites such as the archeological museum, and Santorini’s old port which is the departure port for cruises. It is also close to some of Santorini’s best beaches like Vlychada beach.
• All buses go through Fira which is super convenient if you are not renting a car. For example, if you stay in Oia, you need to change bus in Fira to go to the beach or to another town. When you stay in Fira, you don’t have to do that.

Cheaper than Oia

• Fira Greece hotels are overall cheaper than hotels in Oia Santorini and restaurants are also more affordable, although it offers very similar beauty, shops, views and nightlife than Oia.

Authenticity

• Fira is more authentic than Oia and has been kept a bit more raw which is definitely very nice. 
• Fira is the perfect mix between authenticity and modernity. Fira’s nightlife is very much bustling with tons of restaurants and bars! It’s also the perfect place to watch the sunset!

A lot of the hotels in Fira Greece are luxury hotels which means that they are usually requiring a high-range budget of at least €200 per night. However, we have found (and experienced) amazing Fira hotels with a pool and nice island views for about €60 per night. 

To stay at a Fira hotel Santorini offers, your budget will need to be at least €60 per night during peak season for budget hotels in Santorini Fira. If you wish to stay at a luxury hotel with a hot tub in your room or Caldera view (or both), you will need to start at around €200 per night. This includes cave hotels and hotels with private pools. Some of the most luxurious hotels renting suites at €500 or more during peak season.

Of course, there is no limit to the budget for staying at one of Fira hotels Santorini offers. For example, some of the honeymoon suites are renting for close to €1000 per night during July and August. 

The prices indicated for each hotel Santorini Fira offers are only a rough idea during peak season to help you gauge which hotel would be best for your budget. How we afford luxury travel on a budget

• Plan it in our budget: We like to do a couple of days at a luxury boutique hotel and we know the average price for a luxury room with a specificity like a hot tub is about €300 so we include that in our budget. Greece Fira is no exception.
• Compromise: We cannot afford two weeks at a luxury boutique hotel, however we can usually afford 2 to 3 nights without having to compromise too much on other expense categories. We still want to do the main activities at our destination, go to the restaurant and stay at a decently nice place (we don’t stay at hostels) the rest of our trip. 
• Compromise some more if needed: There are lots of cave hotels in Fira with a hot tub and a caldera view. However, it’s easy to get a nice caldera view from the streets. So we sometimes compromise on the view if we really want a hot tub. It really depends on your preference though!

1. Sunny days, one of the best affordable hotels in Santorini

We absolutely loved staying at Sunny Days hotel during our one week in Santorini. We were a bit nervous about our choice as we had never been to Santorini before but loved it. The hotel is built in the Cycladic tradition with white curved walls but also has a bit of colour. It is a family run hotel so the staff was very nice and welcoming. Our room was a simple double bedroom with a bathroom. From our window, we had views on the island and the Sea (opposite to the Caldera) which was lovely. The room also had a small fridge. 

The hotel features a pool which is quite large and the pool area itself is very nice. Breakfast was simple but good. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from Fira’s centre and the Caldera which is very convenient as you don’t need to drive at night.
