Spa date types

From over 6 years of being together, we’ve had many different spa dates, some really basic at home and some very fancy outside. There are various types of spa dates for couples, ranging from DIY spa dates at home, professional spa dates outside of your home, and in-between options. Each has its own unique benefits for relaxation, finances, and romance, so let’s see which one will suit you better.

DIY spa dates at home

DIY spa dates at home are one of our favorite D date ideas and an excellent way to create a relaxing atmosphere without spending too much money. These are great if you’re on a budget or simply don’t feel like going out. It involves creating a spa-like environment at home by using items like essential oils, bath salts, and candles. Usually, you can do with things you already have at home. But if you don’t, buying them is generally low cost. You can give each other massages, use face masks, and take a relaxing bath together. This type of spa date allows you to customize the experience according to your preferences and can be a fun activity to do together.

Professional spa dates outside of your home

Professional spa dates outside of your home involve visiting a professional spa. This type of spa date can be more expensive, but it offers a higher level of relaxation and pampering. You can choose from a variety of services such as massages, facials, body treatments, and more. Going to a professional spa allows you to be completely taken care of, without worrying about any of the preparation or cleanup. This type of spa date can be a special treat for special occasions or when you want to splurge a little.

In-between spa date options

In-between spa dates involve a mix of DIY spa experiences and professional services. For example, professionals can come to your home to provide massages, facials, and other treatments, or you can purchase a spa kit online to create a spa-like environment in your home. Additionally, there are relaxing locations open to the public like hot springs and thermal centers (more on this later) where you can enjoy the natural healing properties of the water.

No matter which type of spa date you choose, it can be a romantic and relaxing experience for you and your partner. Spending quality time together in a calming environment can help reduce stress and deepen your connection. Additionally, taking care of your physical and emotional wellbeing can lead to a better overall mood and sense of contentment. Whether you prefer the comfort of your own home or the luxury of a professional spa, there are endless options for spa dates for couples.

Couples spa date at home for daytime

In this section, we share our favorite at home spa day ideas for couples that are perfect for daytime. If you’re anything like us, we often don’t have the energy to get something going after 7pm! So these are great if you want to have a spa date during the day, when you still have high levels of energy!

1. Relaxing foot bath together, an easy spa date for maximum relaxation

Looking for an easy and relatively cheap way to recreate a spa-like experience at home with your partner? Then a foot bath is a perfect date idea with an F for you! A relaxing foot bath together is an excellent opportunity to show your love and care for your partner while enjoying a relaxing and romantic time together. You can add some relaxing music in the background and adjust the temperature of the water depending on the season.

Foot baths are actually known for helping to relax your entire body! If you think about it, we’re on our feet all day long so they deserve some attention. When we lived in Dublin, Eric and I had a foot bath that we could fill up and plug in. It had many functions including of warming the water and had jets to massage our feet. We loved it and had the best foot bath spa dates then! It is a perfect opportunity to connect and have meaningful conversations with your loved one.

2. Make your own spa inspired augmented fruit water

This is a very easy spa date idea that we often do, especially in the summer. If you want a fresher alternative to basic water, then make your own spa inspired augmented fruit water together. We use citrus fruits like lemons, grapefruits, and oranges to give the water a tangy and refreshing taste. It is perfect for a summer spa date and is a great opportunity to create something new and delicious together. This activity allows you to work as a team which helps strengthen your connection, and add a fun element to your spa date.

3. Create your homemade skincare masks, one of the coolest at-home spa day ideas for couples

Another fantastic idea for a romantic and relaxing spa date at home is creating your homemade skincare masks. This activity is perfect for couples looking to spend quality time together while caring for their skin. Plus, skin care masks can be expensive so making one at home usually saves us a bit of money! You can adjust the ingredients for different skin types and try many different ones. Some ingredients we really like include oats, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and coconut oil, which can be easily found in cupboards. By doing the DIY together, you can also connect and have a fun time experimenting with different mask recipes.

4. Relax together with yoga and meditation

Eric is a big fan of meditation. I have to admit, it’s hard for me but when I do manage to meditate, it’s a great way to feel more connected together.

Yoga and meditation are the perfect activities for couples, who like us, are looking to relax and unwind together. It is a good opportunity to press pause, especially for busy young professionals like us. Yoga and meditation also provide a great bonding opportunity as you can hold hands while meditating or even snuggle up together. You can add some warm towels on your foreheads while meditating, enhancing the relaxing experience. Afterward, take a relaxing couple shower to wash off any sweat and further your connection. This activity promotes relaxation, mindfulness, and encourages physical touch, which is an essential part of any relationship.

5. Relax on the couch with eye masks

During a busy day, it’s rare to have the time to do nothing. But, what if you could turn the bit of free time you have in a spa activity with your partner? By using eye masks, you can help reduce visual distractions and let your mind wander. It’s a better version of just taking a nap as it is deliberate and intentional relaxation. With DIY eye masks, you can have a fun activity to do together beforehand that will help you connect even more. You can use cucumbers or hot and cold towels to augment your sense of touch, making holding hands even more romantic.

6. Connect through meditation and aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a great way to enhance your spa date experience at home, especially during the daytime. It’s a form of augmented meditation that can bring a sense of relaxation to the body and mind. Light slow music in the background and create an environment of relaxation with scented candles or diffusers. You can make your own aromatherapy blend together, as a team, to add an even deeper personal touch to your spa experience.

7. Have a citrus fruit infused bath together

A romantic bath can be made even better by adding citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. It’s a great alternative for hot summer days, as the fruits will help invigorate and refresh your senses. The bright colors and vibrant aromas of the fruits add a romantic element to the bath. The daytime is perfect for this as the natural light coming in through the windows will illuminate the bath and create a romantic setting. This idea is especially good for men, who tend to get hotter quicker than women, making a hot bath less practical.

In our experience, it is better to pour luke warm water, add in the citrus fruits and let it sit for a bit so the water can get infused.

8. Give each other hand massages

In the daytime, it may not be practical to give each other a full-body massage, but a hand massage is a great alternative. Not only is it practical as you can wash your hands and go on with your day, but it’s also a great way to pay closer attention to your partner. On top of that, hand massages are easy to give so it’s a great day time spa date even when you are tired or feel under the weather. It’s a small gesture that shows love and affection, and it’s also an opportunity to connect through touch.

9. Try couple yoga for a change

If you’re an active couple who get bored easily, trying couple yoga is an excellent way to change things up. It’s one of the C dates and a great way to work together and connect with your partner while also getting a workout. You can try different poses that require communication and cooperation, making it an excellent bonding experience. It’s also a great way to improve your flexibility and strength, which can have practical advantages in your daily life.

10. Body scrub each other and apply moisturiser

A body scrub followed by applying moisturizer is a great way to take care of your skin and bond with your partner. It’s a simple but effective spa treatment that can be done at home. Use natural ingredients like sugar or salt mixed with coconut oil or essential oils to make your own scrub. The gentle scrubbing motion can help exfoliate dead skin cells, leaving your skin soft and glowing. Apply a moisturizer afterward to lock in hydration and enjoy the softness of each other’s skin.

11. Use bathrobes and sponge slippers

A bathrobe and sponge slippers can help elevate your spa experience at home. It’s a great way to create a luxurious feeling while being comfortable. Bathrobes also provide privacy while moving around the house and make it easy to change into different outfits. Sponge slippers are a great way to feel comfortable while also being practical as they can be easily washed. It’s a great way to add an extra element of comfort and relaxation to your spa day at home.

Spa date night at home

Having had many dates in Ireland for many years, in Canada and now in the UK, we know that nights are often cold and that we often prefer making our own spa date in the comfort of our own home instead of braving the cold. In this section, we share our favorite at home spa night date ideas that we’ve tested and approved over the years.

12. Have a hot bath with essential oils

There’s nothing more romantic than soaking in a hot bath with your partner, especially after a long day of traveling or working. Adding essential oils to your bath will enhance the at home spa date experience and create a sense of relaxation for both you and your partner. Essential oils have a range of benefits, from relieving stress and tension to reducing inflammation and promoting a good night’s sleep. For a romantic evening, consider using a few drops of lavender or rose essential oil for a floral scent that promotes relaxation and love.

Having a hot bath in the evening is a great way to unwind and connect with your partner after a long day. It’s the perfect time to focus on each other and relax in each other’s company. We recommend not filling up the tub completely so you can add warm water later when it gets cold, making the experience even more enjoyable.

13. Have a bubble bath with candles for the perfect spa night at home

Bring back childhood memories by having a bubble bath with your partner. Adding romantic candles and rose petals will create a warm and intimate atmosphere. It’s a great way to reconnect and spend quality time together. By not filling up the tub completely, you can add warm water later when it gets cold, extending your time in the bubbles.

For the perfect bubbles, we recommend either buying special bubble bath soap or using lighter body wash as they make bubbles quicker. We also recommend using the shower head on jet mode to make bubbles faster.

Bubble baths are a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend time with your partner, and the addition of candles and rose petals creates a romantic and intimate setting. It’s a perfect way to escape from the stress of daily life and focus on each other.

14. Use bath bombs and chocolate covered snacks for a better spa date for couples

For a more playful and romantic evening, surprise your partner with bath bombs and chocolate covered snacks. We’ve been using Lush bath bombs for years and love them. The best part is you can reuse them too as they’re so big that it takes more than one bath to completely dissolve them.

You can make the chocolate covered snacks together beforehand, creating a fun and enjoyable experience. The snacks can be pretzels or strawberries for examples. Each surprise each other with a different bath bomb scent, adding an element of excitement and surprise to the evening.

This idea is not only romantic, but it’s also a playful way to connect with your partner. It’s an excellent opportunity to show your partner how much you care and to have some fun together. Plus, who doesn’t love a relaxing bath and some sweet treats?

15. Have a Drinks and Skincare night, one of the fun spa night ideas for couples

A twist on a traditional face mask, a drinks and skincare night involves sipping champagne or soft drinks while taking fun photos with masks on. It’s a great spa date idea to unwind and connect with your partner, while also taking care of your skin.

This idea is perfect for an intimate and romantic evening at home. It allows you to focus on each other while also pampering yourselves. Taking fun photos together while wearing face masks is a lighthearted and enjoyable way to create memories with your partner.

16. Give each other back massages, one of the classic at home spa ideas for him and her

One of the most classic and romantic ways to spend an evening at home is by giving each other back massages. Take turns and use good smelling lotion or coconut oil to create a relaxing and enjoyable experience. If you like to do that often, we recommend getting a big jar of coconut oil. We have one and it has lasted us years! Don’t worry if the oil becomes solid. Its consistency varies depending on the temperature. The best part is that you can also eat it! While you’re massaging your partner, emphasize on shoulders and neck as they are usually more tense, at least in our experience.

Massages are an intimate and enjoyable way to connect with your partner during a spa date. It’s one of the most liked idea of a spa date for couples! By giving each other massages, you are showing your partner that you care for them and their wellbeing. It’s a perfect opportunity to unwind and focus on each other.

17. Give each other head massages, one of the perfect couples pamper night ideas

A romantic and relaxing spa date at home is not complete without head massages. While back massages are great, head massages can be just as relaxing and intimate. Using coconut oil as a hair conditioner will help your partner to relax and feel loved. A good head massage should focus on the sides and forehead. The combination of the pressure and the warm oil will help to release tension, increase blood flow and leave your partner feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. During the evening, the lack of distractions and the quiet atmosphere will enhance the experience, making it a perfect opportunity to connect with your partner on a deeper level.

18. Give each other hot stone massages

For a different experience, consider purchasing hot stones beforehand and giving each other hot stone massages. Hot stones have a range of benefits, including reducing muscle tension and increasing circulation. It’s a unique and intimate way to connect with your partner.

This idea is not only romantic but also a unique way to spend an evening together. By using hot stones, you are creating a sense of warmth and comfort that is both relaxing and enjoyable. It’s a perfect way to show your partner that you care for their wellbeing.

19. Hop in the hot tub, a classic spa date for couples

A hot tub is a perfect way to relax and unwind after a long day. The warm water will help to soothe tired muscles and calm the mind. It is particularly beneficial during the evening as it will help you to unwind and get ready for a good night’s sleep. Hop in the hot tub with your partner, relax, and let the warm water soothe your body and soul. If you are traveling, consider booking a hotel with a hot tub to make your romantic evening even more special. We’ve had spa dates at the hot tub when we visited Warsaw but also when we visited Spain and got engaged on the beach!

You can enjoy the experience together while taking in the view or just enjoying each other’s company in a relaxed atmosphere. The hot tub experience will bring you closer and make your connection stronger.

20. Go for couple’s massages for the perfect couples pamper day

Going for couple’s massages by the beach like you would in Santa Barbara, is an amazing idea for a romantic spa date. It’s a great way to connect with your partner and spend some quality time together. The soothing sound of waves and the magnificent view of the beach make it even more romantic. Professional masseuses will ensure that you both get a great massage and all the knots in your body are relieved. Additionally, you can enjoy some snacks, drinks, and other services while enjoying the view.

This activity is best done during the day, as you can take advantage of the natural light and the stunning scenery. Moreover, it’s an opportunity to feel rejuvenated and refreshed in the middle of the day, which can help you relax and connect with your partner.

21. Visit natural hot springs

If you’re looking for an idea to have a spa day with a boyfriend, then visiting natural hot springs could be just what you’re looking for. Visiting natural hot springs is another great idea for a romantic spa date. It’s an opportunity to be surrounded by nature, enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, relax with your partner and even get in a bit of a hike. It’s one of our recommended 52 date ideas.

Many states and countries have natural hot springs, like California with the hot springs near Tahoe or Hawaii with the Big Island hot ponds. Most of them are free and natural, which is great for couples on a budget. Some others are paid, like the Scandinavian Spa in Whistler, BC, or the Fairmont Hot Springs. We visited both the Scandinavian spa in Whistler and the Fairmont Hot Springs and loved them. It was super relaxing and the surrounding landscapes created a magical bubble for just the two of us.

Visiting hot springs is a unique experience that can bring couples together. The smell of pine, the snow-covered mountains, and the relaxing space with fireplaces can set a romantic and peaceful atmosphere. You can enjoy cold and hot pools, and take advantage of the benefits of natural minerals and heat for their bodies. It’s an activity that’s worth paying for as it offers a unique experience and a chance to connect with your partner in a peaceful environment.

22. Get a facial together for a successful spa day for your girlfriend

Getting a facial together is a great way to pamper yourselves and look your best. It’s an activity that can help relieve stress and make you feel rejuvenated. Many busy young couples suffer from stress, and facials are a perfect way to relieve that stress and connect with your partner. It’s also a great first-time experience to share as most people have never done it before.

Facials are best done during the day as they require natural light, and can help you feel more energized for the rest of the day. You and your partner can treat each other to a facial and experience it together. It’s a way to connect on a deeper level and pamper yourselves. It’s worth paying for a professional facial as it can offer you both an opportunity to relax and feel better.

Spa date ideas out for night time

If you’r looking for the perfect “spa date night near me”, then we’ve got you covered. Here are two amazing night time spa date ideas that we absolutely love and have done many times!

23. Rent private hot tub and sauna for two hours

If you’re looking for an intimate spa experience with your partner, renting a private hot tub and sauna for two hours is a perfect option. This is something we’ve done a couple of times in France as it is pretty common there. This is an amazing spa date idea because you get access to a hot tub and sauna or steam room just for the two of you, making the experience more personal and romantic. It’s an organized experience and usually not too expensive, making it one of the best spa night date ideas. In our experience, these private spa sessions usually last for around two hours and can be scheduled in the evening before dinner. We recommend booking ahead of time as they are usually full!

24. Go to thermal baths, the spa date your partner will remember

Thermal baths are another great spa date idea for couples. The two-hour sessions usually include access to a river pool, hot tubs, hot and cold baths, sauna, and steam rooms, providing an ultimate spa experience. Some thermal bath packages also include romantic sessions with couples massages and champagne. Going to thermal baths is a great idea for a date night because you can see the city lights from the outdoor heated pools, making it a romantic and unique experience. This option is perfect for couples who want to relax and spend quality time together.

Eric and I have been to several thermal baths as they are quite popular in France. If you’re ever in the North East of France, we recommend the Thermapolis and the Villa Pompei in Amneville. We had amazing times there enjoying the different temperatures pools along with the couple massages and Champagne! If you are unsure whether there is one by your location, you can search for “spa date near me thermal baths”.

Full romantic spa day for couples

If you’re struggling to build the perfect spa day date for your partner, we’ve got you covered. In this section, we offer two spa date itineraries with a mix of free, paying, at home and outside spa date activities to ensure you have the best date possible. No need to search for spa date for couples near me with these ideas!

Spa Date Itinerary Option 1

10am

Start off by going to the store in matching outfits and picking up everything you need for the day, including some lotion or essential oils, bath bombs, skin care masks from Lush, and some fresh flowers. This will set the mood and get you excited for the rest of the day.

Date spa lunch

Upon your return at home, make or order a fresh salad using one of our favorite recipes. In a bowl, mix some fresh lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes, red beans, avocado, palm hearts, corn, and add some smoked salmon slices. Top it off with your favorite dressing like mayo or hot chili sauce. To accompany your meal, make some augmented water. In a jug, add water with cucumber and lemon slices and let it sit for a couple of hours in the fridge. This will keep you hydrated and refreshed throughout the day.

2pm

Take turns giving each other a relaxing back massage with the lotion you bought earlier. This will help to release any tension and stress from your muscles, and make you feel more connected and in tune with each other.

Evening

End the day with a relaxing bath bomb bubble bath. Add some of the bath bombs you bought to the tub and enjoy the soothing and relaxing bubbles. While soaking in the tub, apply the skin care masks you bought earlier to help rejuvenate and refresh your skin. This will leave you both feeling refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated after a wonderful day of pampering and relaxation.

Spa Date Itinerary Option 2

10am

Starting at 10am, you can kick off your day by going for a couple’s massage, which is not only a great way to relax your muscles but also a very intimate experience that will help you feel closer to each other. The dim lighting, soothing music, and calming scents will make for a perfect atmosphere to connect with your partner.

Lunch

For lunch, you can make or order a fresh salad together, and enjoy it while discussing your favorite moments from the massage. By working on this activity together, you can strengthen your connection and sense of partnership. The recipe we suggest includes fresh ingredients and some delicious smoked salmon slices, and you can also make a refreshing and hydrating augmented water recipe to stay hydrated throughout the day.

2pm

You can go visit natural hot springs, which are often free to access, or you can opt to go to a thermal bath, which may have an entrance fee. Either way, you will have the opportunity to relax in warm, mineral-rich water, and take in the beautiful natural surroundings. Being out in nature together can be a very romantic and rejuvenating experience.

Evening

In the evening, you can continue your spa day at home by having a foot bath together. Soaking your feet in warm water and using some essential oils can help you relax and unwind, and it’s an easy way to extend the spa experience from earlier in the day. By taking the time to pamper each other and create a relaxing atmosphere, you can strengthen your bond and deepen your connection.

More romantic massage ideas

Massages are a big part of our spa dates but after a while, giving a classic back massage can feel boring. Here are 6 ways to elevate your spa date for 2 with enhanced massage experiences.

Full body massage

A full body massage is a great way to show your partner you care about them and their relaxation. This kind of massage helps to create a deeper connection between you and your partner as you are exploring every part of their body.

Add calming music

Adding some calming music to your massage session is a great way to augment the relaxation and romance of the experience. It helps to create a soothing atmosphere, which in turn can help to relax your partner even more.

Light up some candles

Lighting up some candles helps to create a warm and romantic atmosphere. The flickering of the candles can create a peaceful ambiance that helps to relax your partner and create a sense of intimacy between you two.

Spray some lavender on pillows

The scent of lavender has a calming effect that helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Spraying lavender on pillows will add an extra layer of relaxation to your massage experience and help your partner feel more at ease.

Make sure your partner is comfortable

Making sure your partner is comfortable during the massage is essential for relaxation. Ensure they are lying in a comfortable position, with a pillow under their head, and have blankets available to keep them warm.

Use warm towels to cover parts you’re not massaging

Covering the parts of the body that you are not massaging with warm towels helps to maintain body temperature and creates a more relaxing experience for your partner. The warmth of the towels also helps to loosen up muscles and create a deeper sense of relaxation.

What do you wear to a spa date?

It’s important to consider what to wear on a spa date. You want to be comfortable, relaxed, and ready to unwind. Here are some tips on what to wear for a spa date that we’ve picked up over the years.

Spa date outfit for women

Spa Dates at Home: For a spa date at home, you can wear comfortable clothing such as yoga pants and a t-shirt or a cozy robe. If massages are on the menu, then you’ll want to wear a loose shirt so it doesn’t stick to the oils or lotion. You want to wear something that’s easy to move around in and that won’t be too tight or restrictive.

Spa Dates in a Professional Setting: If you’re going to a professional spa, it’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to take on and off. Some spas may provide you with a robe, underwear and slippers, but you can also bring your own if you prefer. It’s also a good idea to bring a change of clothes if you plan on going out afterwards. Most spas will provide you a towel and some hygiene products as well.

Spa date outfit for men

Spa Dates at Home: Similar to women, men can also wear comfortable clothing such as shorts and a t-shirt or a cozy robe for a spa date at home. Just make sure it’s something that you’re comfortable in and that allows you to move around easily.

Spa Dates in a Professional Setting: For a professional spa date, men should wear loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to take on and off. This can include athletic wear or comfortable shorts and a t-shirt. As with women, it’s also a good idea to bring a change of clothes if you plan on going out afterwards.

In a professional setting, you may be provided with paper underwear to wear during your treatments. However, if you feel uncomfortable wearing them, you can always opt to wear your own underwear. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your spa experience.

Best time to have a spa date

When it comes to planning a spa date, it’s important to consider the timing. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Is a spa date good for a first date?

While a spa date might sound like a great idea, it might not be the best choice for a first date.

High level of intimacy

A spa date can be quite intimate which can scare off your date if you’ve never gone out together before. Showing your body in a bathing suit or having to take off your clothes to get a couple’s massage can make people very self-conscious which is a lot of pressure on a first date.

Little opportunity for conversation

A first date at the spa, whether at home or in a professional setting usually involves being quiet, and relaxing which doesn’t offer much time to actually talk. If you’re not talking, you can’t know if you two have anything in common and if you’d like to go on a second date. For that reason, we wouldn’t recommend a spa date for a first date.

Expensive spa date

Spa dates can be quite expensive, especially if done in a professional setting. So it might not be the best choice if you’re still getting to know each other and aren’t sure whether the other person is worth it!

Too early to be at home together

If it’s your first date, then it’s usually off-limits to go to each other’s homes. For that reason, a spa date at home wouldn’t work.

Allergies

Spa dates come with essential oils, lotion and face masks which means they also come with allergies. It would be a shame for your date to get an allergic reaction on your first date and that you’d both end up at the hospital! Better avoid that risk and pick something less threatening! It’s also not super romantic to ask them if they have any allergy on your first date.

Is a spa date suitable for summer?

Summer can be a great time for a spa date, but you’ll need to accommodate for the warmer temperatures. Avoid any heavy rubbing, as it can be too hot otherwise. Lighter massages, like Swedish or aromatherapy, can be a great option. Consider an outside spa date, like visiting natural hot springs or a beachside spa, where you can cool off in the water.

Is a spa date suitable for winter?

Winter is the season with the most spa dates, and for good reason. Cold weather and hot baths are a perfect match, providing a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. It’s a great time to indulge in a deep tissue massage or hot stone massage to soothe any aches and pains from the cold. Plus, there’s nothing better than sitting in a hot tub or sauna on a cold winter day. Just be sure to bring warm clothing for after the spa session, as you’ll want to keep the relaxed feeling going.

Overall, the best time for a spa date depends on your personal preferences and what you’re looking to get out of the experience. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, or just some quality time with your partner, there’s a spa date option that’s right for you. Just remember to take into account the time of year and your level of intimacy.

Spa date meaning

We have done many spa dates together ever since we met. Eric and I are both self-care enthusiasts so we enjoy spending spa dates together to connect on a deeper level. But for those who have no idea what going on a spa date means, here’s an explanation.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a date can be defined as “a social meeting planned before it happens, especially one between two people who have or might have a romantic relationship”.

According to the same dictionary, a spa can be defined as “a place where people can relax and receive health and beauty treatments, with, for example steam baths and exercise equipment.”

By combining the two, we obtain the definition of a spa date which is “a social meeting planned before it happens, especially one between two people who have or might have a romantic relationship to relax and receive health and beauty treatments”. In other word, a spa date is a pre-arranged gathering, particularly between two individuals who share a romantic bond or the potential for one, intended for holistic relaxation and rejuvenation through health and beauty treatments.

To simplify, a spa date is usually organised by a couple or two people with the potential of starting a relationship and consists in bonding together over relaxing activities like getting massages or doing face masks.

Are spa days good for couples?

Spa dates are the perfect way to rejuvenate your relationship and provide some much-needed relaxation. Studies show that mindfulness and relaxation exercises can greatly improve relationships and lower stress in romantic relationships. However, it’s not always feasible to book a luxurious spa day. That’s why at-home spa dates are becoming increasingly popular. Eric and I have been doing spa dates for years whether that’d be at home or at professional salons and we have realised how much it helps us connect. We’re always so relaxed afterwards that we become more appreciative of each other and also more present to spend mindful time together.

So here are five benefits of having a spa date for couple that we have noticed through our experience.

Shared Experience

Inviting your partner to enjoy a couples massage with you can deepen your connection through a shared experience. While this is true for both men and women, women may be more familiar with the pampering experience of a spa. However, by creating an at-home spa date, you can make it an experience that you both enjoy together. This can include everything from lighting candles to playing soothing music.Whether you’re creating your spa date at home or you’re doing it in a professional setting, doing it together means you’re sharing a moment together which will make you feel more connected. From our experience, there’s always one of us who hasn’t done something before. So it’s always nice when you can be there for your partner’s first time at the spa!

Increased Affection between partners

A massage is designed to release built-up tension in your muscles. This can result in increased levels of oxytocin, which is often referred to as the “cuddle hormone.” And we like to cuddle!Oxytocin gives you a more intense feeling of affection, which can help you to connect to your partner physically. At home, you can experiment with different massage techniques, such as using a massage oil, or even using a foam roller to release tension in your muscles.

Relieve Stress

Stress can be a major factor in putting a strain on your relationship. And these days, we can confirm that stress is everywhere and puts certain relationship to the test! In our experience, having a spa day, even a simple one, is a great way to help alleviate that stress. Aromatherapy can also play a big part in relaxing your body and mind. Essential oils such as lavender, bergamot, and ylang-ylang can help reduce stress levels. By creating a calming environment at home or outside, you can both let go of some of your stress and concentrate on being in the moment with your partner.

Quality Time

With our busy schedules, it can be hard to find quality time with your partner. These days, it seems we spend most of our time on screens whether that’d be for work or for hobbies. Phones, computers, TVs, it seems that little time is actually spent to truly be present together. Though watching television together can be a great way to unwind, it doesn’t provide the same level of relaxation as a spa day. By setting aside time for an at-home spa date, you’re prioritizing your relationship and giving yourselves the opportunity to unwind and connect. Trust us, it doesn’t have to be difficult to set up, sometimes the littlest things make the biggest difference!

In the Moment

Couples often spend too much time focused on the past or worrying about the future. With all the bad news on TV and in the media, it seems that as you grow up, the future always looks darker. A spa date can be an excellent way to stay present and focus on the moment while getting a break from the negativity. By creating a spa day at home, you’re able to create an environment that allows you to disconnect from the outside world and focus solely on each other.

Relaxing Smells

Creating a relaxing atmosphere at home can be enhanced by using essential oils or scented candles. Scent is one of the most powerful senses we have and can play a big part in relaxation. You can experiment with different scents to find what works best for you and your partner. Lavender and vanilla are two popular scents that are known for their relaxation benefits. We even use lavender sprays to fall asleep sometimes!

Working Together

In our experience, working together helps building strong foundation for the future. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re not a team! Creating an at-home spa day can be a fun activity that you and your partner can do together. You can work together to create the perfect atmosphere, pick out relaxing music, and even experiment with different massage techniques. The process of working together can also help to strengthen your relationship and communication skills.
