We’ve been to the Greek Islands several times and thought we’d put together a 10 day itinerary to see some of the most famous islands. Planning a trip to the Greek islands is a wonderful way to experience beautiful beaches, fascinating historical sites, and vibrant local culture.
This ten-day itinerary will guide you through an incredible journey starting in Athens and visiting the stunning islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Naxos, Paros, and Milos. Each day is packed with activities that balance relaxation, exploration, and enjoyment.
Whether you’re lounging on pristine beaches, wandering through charming towns, or tasting delicious local cuisine, this trip promises unforgettable memories. Let’s look at each day’s plan in detail.
Day 1: Athens to Mykonos
- Morning: Arrive in Athens and take a flight or ferry to Mykonos.
- Afternoon: Check into your accommodation and relax at Psarou Beach.
- Evening: Explore Mykonos Town (Chora), visit the iconic windmills, and enjoy the nightlife.
Your first day starts in Athens, where you will catch a flight or ferry to the lively island of Mykonos. Once you arrive, head to your accommodation to check in and drop off your bags. For a relaxing afternoon, visit Psarou Beach.
This beautiful beach is perfect for unwinding after your journey, with its clear waters and serene atmosphere. As evening approaches, make your way to Mykonos Town, also known as Chora. This charming town is famous for its picturesque streets and iconic windmills. Stroll through the narrow alleys filled with shops, cafes, and bars.
As night falls, Mykonos Town comes alive with a vibrant nightlife. Whether you prefer a quiet dinner at a local taverna or want to experience the energetic clubs, Mykonos offers something for everyone.
Day 2: Mykonos
- Morning: Visit Delos Island, an important archaeological site and UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Afternoon: Return to Mykonos and explore the charming alleys of Little Venice.
- Evening: Dinner at a seaside taverna.
On your second day, take a short boat ride to Delos Island, one of Greeceโs most significant archaeological sites. Delos is a UNESCO World Heritage site with ruins that date back to ancient Greece.
It was once a thriving center of commerce and culture. After exploring Delos, head back to Mykonos for an afternoon in Little Venice. This area of Mykonos Town is known for its colorful houses and lively atmosphere right by the water.
Spend some time wandering through the charming alleys, browsing shops, and maybe stopping for a coffee. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a seaside taverna. Fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes are a must-try, all while taking in the beautiful views of the sea.
Day 3: Mykonos to Santorini
- Morning: Take a ferry to Santorini.
- Afternoon: Check into your accommodation and visit the Red Beach.
- Evening: Enjoy the sunset in Oia, one of the most beautiful spots in Santorini.
On the third day, youโll take a ferry to the stunning island of Santorini. Known for its dramatic views and beautiful sunsets, Santorini is a must-see. Once you arrive, check into your accommodation and head to the famous Red Beach.
The unique red sand and clear waters make it a great spot for an afternoon swim. As the day comes to an end, make your way to Oia, a village known for its breathtaking sunsets. Find a good spot and watch as the sky turns vibrant colors over the caldera. This experience is one of the highlights of Santorini and will leave you with lasting memories.
Day 4: Santorini
- Morning: Explore the ancient ruins of Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement.
- Afternoon: Visit the black sand beaches of Kamari or Perissa.
- Evening: Dine at a cliffside restaurant with views of the caldera.
Start your fourth day by visiting the ancient ruins of Akrotiri, a well-preserved Minoan Bronze Age settlement. Often referred to as the “Minoan Pompeii,” Akrotiri provides a fascinating glimpse into ancient life.
After exploring the ruins, spend your afternoon at one of Santoriniโs unique black sand beaches. Kamari and Perissa are both excellent choices for relaxing by the sea. The volcanic sand and crystal-clear waters create a unique beach experience.
For dinner, head to a cliffside restaurant. Dining with views of the caldera is a special treat, and Santoriniโs cuisine is sure to delight with its fresh ingredients and traditional flavors.
Day 5: Santorini to Naxos
- Morning: Take a ferry to Naxos.
- Afternoon: Check into your accommodation and explore Naxos Town, including the Portara (Temple of Apollo).
- Evening: Walk around the old town (Kastro) and have dinner in a traditional taverna.
On day five, youโll travel to Naxos, the largest of the Cyclades islands. After arriving by ferry, check into your accommodation and set out to explore Naxos Town.
One of the first sights youโll see is the Portara, the grand entrance of the unfinished Temple of Apollo, offering stunning views of the sea. Spend the afternoon wandering through the charming streets of Naxos Town, exploring shops and local cafes. In the evening, head to the old town, known as Kastro.
This historic area is filled with narrow alleys and beautiful architecture. Enjoy dinner at a traditional taverna, where you can taste local Naxian dishes made with fresh, local ingredients.

Day 6: Naxos
- Morning: Visit the village of Halki and the nearby Vallindras Kitron Distillery.
- Afternoon: Relax at Agios Prokopios Beach, one of the best beaches on the island.
- Evening: Enjoy a beachside dinner and sunset.
Day six begins with a visit to the village of Halki, located in the heart of Naxos. Halki is known for its charming streets and traditional architecture. While there, visit the Vallindras Kitron Distillery to learn about and sample kitron, a local citrus liqueur.
In the afternoon, head to Agios Prokopios Beach, considered one of the best beaches on Naxos. The soft sand and clear waters make it an ideal spot for relaxation. Spend the afternoon swimming and sunbathing.
For dinner, choose a beachside restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sunset. The peaceful ambiance and stunning views make for a perfect end to the day.
Day 7: Naxos to Paros
- Morning: Take a ferry to Paros.
- Afternoon: Check into your accommodation and explore Parikia, the island’s capital.
- Evening: Visit the Byzantine Church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani and stroll along the waterfront.
On the seventh day, youโll travel to Paros, another beautiful island in the Cyclades. It’s actually one of our favorite islands and one of the very first ones we visited together. After arriving by ferry, check into your accommodation and spend the afternoon exploring Parikia, the islandโs capital.
Parikia is known for its charming streets, historic sites, and vibrant atmosphere. One of the highlights is the Byzantine Church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani, also known as the Church of 100 Doors.
This ancient church is a significant religious site and a must-see. After visiting the church, take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront. Parikiaโs waterfront is lined with cafes, shops, and restaurants, making it a great place to spend the evening.
Day 8: Paros
- Morning: Take a day trip to the nearby island of Antiparos.
- Afternoon: Return to Paros and relax at Kolymbithres Beach, known for its unique rock formations.
- Evening: Explore the nightlife in Naoussa, a picturesque fishing village.
Start your eighth day with a day trip to the nearby island of Antiparos. Antiparos is just a short boat ride from Paros and offers a quieter, more laid-back atmosphere.
Spend the morning exploring the island, visiting its beaches and charming town. After returning to Paros, head to Kolymbithres Beach in the afternoon. This beach is famous for its unique rock formations that create natural swimming pools.
Itโs a great spot for relaxing and taking in the natural beauty. In the evening, explore the nightlife in Naoussa, a picturesque fishing village. Naoussa is known for its vibrant nightlife, with many bars and restaurants offering a lively atmosphere.
Day 9: Paros to Milos
- Morning: Take a ferry to Milos.
- Afternoon: Check into your accommodation and visit Sarakiniko Beach, famous for its lunar landscape.
- Evening: Wander around the charming village of Plaka and enjoy dinner with a view.
On the ninth day, youโll travel to Milos, an island known for its stunning landscapes. After arriving by ferry, check into your accommodation and head to Sarakiniko Beach in the afternoon.
Sarakiniko is famous for its white volcanic rock formations that create a lunar-like landscape. Itโs one of the most unique beaches in Greece and a must-visit. Spend the afternoon exploring and taking photos of this incredible spot.
In the evening, wander around the charming village of Plaka. Plaka offers beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant with a view, savoring the delicious food and the tranquil setting.
Day 10: Milos to Athens
- Morning: Explore the ancient Roman theater and the catacombs in Tripiti.
- Afternoon: Take a ferry or flight back to Athens.
- Evening: Spend your final evening exploring Plaka, the old neighborhood in Athens, and enjoy a farewell dinner.
Your final day begins with a visit to the ancient Roman theater and the catacombs in Tripiti, Milos. The Roman theater offers insight into the islandโs history and provides great views of the surrounding area.
The catacombs are also fascinating, with their intricate underground passages. After your morning of exploration, itโs time to head back to Athens by ferry or flight. Once you arrive in Athens, spend your last evening exploring the Plaka neighborhood.
Plaka is one of the oldest parts of Athens, filled with narrow streets, shops, and cafes. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional Greek restaurant, reflecting on the wonderful experiences of your trip.
