The best Milos beaches: 22 beaches in Milos for a stunning trip

Save to Find It Later!

Milos beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches in the Greek Islands. The unique coastline of Milos features jaw-dropping beaches with canyons, cenotes, unique landscapes that look like the moon, crystal clear waters and secluded beaches. Milos best beaches have nothing to envy to other islands like Santorini. Milos is definitely one of the best Europe beach destinations to consider if you’re looking for unique beaches!

Papafragas beach, one of the best beaches in Milos
22 best Milos beaches

In this guide, we have gathered the 22 best beaches in Milos we recommend you visit as a couple on a budget. We have set out how to get to Milos beaches, the best time to visit Milos beaches, why Milos best beaches are great for couples on a budget and how they differ from Santorini beaches.

Why Milos beaches are amazing for couples on a budget

During our trip to Milos, we thought Milos beaches were exactly what we were looking for as a travel couple on a budget and here’s why.

Milos beaches are free

Similarly to Corsican beaches in France, beaches in Milos are free to enter which is great as going to the beach is one of the main activities to do in Milos. From our experience, carparks are also always free. If you are anything like us and like to spend a lot of time at the beach, you will definitely appreciate not having to pay for parking.

Transportation can be made cheap

The other great point about Milos beaches is that you can still access most of them, even if you don’t have the budget to rent a car. If you are more on the cheap side, or if your mode of transportation around the island isn’t your priority, you can take the bus, which is cheap, or rent an ATV to go to the beach. If you choose to rent an ATV, you can always negotiate the price a bit.

Milos is romantic

It’s honestly really hard to not see how romantic Milos beaches are. If you are looking to reconnect with your partner, relax and really appreciate the time spent together, you will love Milos beaches. From the sceneries, one always more beautiful than the other, to the vibe and tranquility of the beaches in Milos, it is honestly the perfect place for a romantic getaway!

Best time to visit Milos beaches

The best time to visit Milos beaches is undoubtedly summer. Summer has the best weather with high temperatures, sometimes going up to 40°C and warm sea water which is perfect to go snorkelling, swimming, and take underwater photos and videos! Ideally, June to September is perfect. Late September is already a little more chilly, especially at night so we would recommend bringing a light sweater and maybe a pair of pants for the evenings.

Tsigrado beach Milos

Summer on Milos is busiest in July and August. That said, the island is still quite big and it’s totally manageable. When we visited in September, we though the island was quite empty so it was a great time to visit as a couple as there was lots of room on the beach, and everything was relatively quiet.

Spring can also be a great time to visit Milos beaches especially as the island will be less busy. That said spring comes with mild temperatures, which is great for hiking and exploring but not so great if you are into snorkelling and spending lots of time at the beach (our personal preference). The water won’t be too warm and the temperature won’t be high enough to warm you up after going into chilly waters.

Milos beaches vs Santorini beaches

The main difference between the Milos beaches and Santorini beaches is that Milos beaches are much less famous than Santorini beaches. However, Milos beaches are very similar to Santorini beaches, if not more spectacular! Although Santorini beaches are surrounded by lava, high carved cliffs and canyons, we found that Milos beaches have even more impressive character, with red rock formations, white beaches, caves, tunnel beaches and even a moonscape at Sarakiniko beach.

We honestly can’t choose between Milos beaches and Santorini beaches but know that if you are hesitating between the two, you just can’t go wrong!

How to get to Milos beaches

Milos best beaches are quite easily accessible for the most part. The big advantage of Milos Island is that you have lots of options to get to the beach.

Milos Airport

Unlike some other Greek Islands like Ios, Milos Island is one of the Greek Islands that features an airport. This makes Milos an easily accessible Island from continental Europe. From Athens, you can be at a Milos beach in just a few hours, which is quiet amazing.

From Milos airport, you can grab a taxi or rent a car to then go on to the beach. We would recommend booking a car in advance though as there might be a limited number of vehicles available. You don’t need to book a taxi.

Ferry to Milos beaches

Two of the closest islands to Milos are Sifnos and Folegandros. From those islands, you can easily take a ferry to Milos. The journey is about 45 minutes long and direct. The ferry arrives at Adamas port in the town of Adamas. From there, you can walk to two of the best beaches in Milos: Lagada beach and Papakinou beach (see below for more details on those two beaches). If you want to reach some of the other beaches from the Port, you’ll have to either rent a car, an ATV, a scooter or a biggie or take the bus. We book our ferry tickets with Ferryscanner and it’s great!

Insider Tip: Taking the ferry in Greece is just like taking the bus. However it can be overwhelming especially when going to some of the busiest islands like Santorini. You can read or Santorini ferry port guide here to save both money and time!

Bus to Milos best beaches

When we visited Milos, we saw quite a few buses going around the island to both towns and beaches. The buses weren’t very busy which is great if that’s your preferred mode of transportation and you don’t want to have to fight for a seat or wait too long. Since we didn’t take the bus in Milos, we can’t give you verified information. That said, if it’s anything like the bus system on Paros Island (the authentic Santorini), then taking the bus is a great budget-friendly option.

The bus stop in Adamas (the main town) is located right across from the Artemis bakery next to Portiani Hotel

Renting a car to go to Milos beaches

One of the easiest ways to reach Milos best beaches is by car. We would recommend booking a car well in advance to keep the price low. Milos was one of the islands where it was the most expensive to rent a car. That said, we really loved having the freedom that a car offers, especially when we are alway traveling with gear and our cooler!

However, Milos is an island that is only partially developped. The South West of Milos does not have maintained roads and it is not recommended to go there with a car. Actually there isn’t even phone service there. If something happens to your car and you need assistance, please note that car services do not come to that part of Milos. If this is a part of Milos you would like to explore, the next to mode of transportation can help you achieve that.

Renting an ATV, buggie, scooter to go to Milos beaches

Just like we did in Paros, you can also rent an ATV, a buggie or a scooter to go to the beach. ATVs are very common on the island so don’t be afraid to rent one. Some of the access roads, or should I say, dirt roads, to Milos beaches can be rough, and have lots of holes. An ATV handles those situations much better than a car.

Boating to Milos secluded beaches

As I said above, some of Milos beaches are not accessible by car, especially in the South West. However, this is also where some of the best beaches of Milos are! To still visit them, you can rent a boat for a half day or a full day. You can drive your private boat to the beaches you want and you won’t have to worry about hurting the rental car! We rented a boat to visit Kleftiko and the beaches nearby.

Tours to Milos beaches

If you don’t feel comfortable driving your own boat, you can choose this half day catamaran tour or this full day sailing cruise to visit beaches that are only accessible by boat.

Kayaking to Milos best beaches

You also have the option of renting kayaks to explore the island. This can be a great option if you don’t feel like driving a boat but still want to explore hidden beaches like Kastanas.

Best Milos beaches in the wild

1. Sarakiniko beach

Sarakiniko beach Milos, one of the best Milos beaches
Sarakiniko beach Milos

Sarakiniko beach, also called as the moonscape, is one of the most famous Milos beaches. That is due to its very particular looks and uniqueness. Being in Sarakiniko feels like being on a different planet!

Sarakiniko beach is easily accessible by car or by bus. The site is quite big so although it will get busy during the day, you still have plenty of space. From the Shipwreck, Sarakino’s desert, the canyons, cenotes to Sarakino beach and moonscape, there is lots to say about Sarakino. That’s why we wrote a complete dedicated guide to Sarakiniko. With this guide, you will know and see everything you need to in Sarakiniko.

As you see, photos at Sarakiniko can be quite phenomenal! If you’d like to share them on social media, don’t forget to use one of our quotes on Greece travel or one of our couple travel captions!

2. Kleftiko

Kleftiko Milos
Kleftiko Milos

Kleftiko is one of the most unique rock formations to visit while on Milos Island. As it is located in the South West of the Island, it is mainly only accessible by boat. If you would like to access it by car or hike to Kleftiko, we wrote a complete guide on Kleftiko that will explain everything.

Kleftiko is a must-see in Milos. The water is so clear, shark free, it feel slike a swimming pool. The views are amazing and the boat trip (whether you book a tour or a private boat) takes you to a lot of other amazing beaches. Truly worth experiencing on Milos!

3. Papafragas beach and caves

Milos beach Papafragas
Milos beach Papafragas

Papafragas beach is located on the North Coast of Milos between Sarakiniko and Pollonia. It is quite a unique beach and we hadn’t seen anything like this before!

Papafragas site is easily accessible. Once you are getting close to the site, park along the road. You should be able to see a pull out with some cars already parked there. The site is divided in two parts, each with one beach.

The first part on your right is quite incredible. It is a narrow canal formed by two cliffs which surrounds a small thin white sand beach. The beach is actually closed by a fence with a warning sign that it is dangerous to walk down. We had read that people still went down to the beach and would just go over the fence. However, when we visited this part of Papafragas beach, no-one was at the beach and the fence was quite deterrent. So we chose not to go down this way. However, this part is still quite impressive. You can really see the tunnel created by the cliffs and how it was carved by the wind and time. Don’t hesitate to explore!

The second par ton the left is equally as incredible and has an easily accessible beach as well! It seems that this part of Papafragas is looked over in most Milos beaches guide so we really wanted to include it here so you can have a complete Papafragas experience! On the left (when looking at the sea), if you keep walking on the cliffs, you will find yourself coming close to another beach. It’s quite easy to access, either from the road or from the first part of Papafragas. The beach isn’t big but when we went, it was busy and we found a spot easily. Most people just come by to check it out but don’t stay for the whole day. Here the beach is also located between two cliffs that form a big tunnel. On days where the sea is calm, you can swim out the tunnel and then along the coast. Be mindful of sea urchins though!

Insider Tip: To finish your visit at Papafragas beach, head up to the left cliff where you will find a sort of cenote aka a big hole where the sea comes crashing!

4. Tsigrado beach

Tsigrado beach, one of Milos best beaches

Tsigrado beach is one of the most famous Milos beaches. You might have seen it on social media already; it is the small beach accessible through two ladders laid against the cliffs. There are two ways to access this beach. The first one is going down the ladders. The second one is by boat.

To be honest, I (Marie) was really excited about this beach and was ready for an adventure down the ladders…until I saw the ladders. To reach the first one, there is actually quite a gap you have to go over and that totally scared me (anyone else is afraid of heights here?). I honestly didn’t feel safe going down (although I have skydived not that long ago, so I’m not usually that scared!). Quite a few people went down but we just turned around. We decided it wasn’t worth risking it.

Tsigrado beach Milos

Insider tip: If you’re going to go down the ladders, wear sneakers or throw your flip flops to the beach. You can also throw your beach bag all the way down so you can use your hands to hang onto what you can! When coming up, wear sunglasses as dust will most likely be flying in your eyes.

The second way is a lot easier although more expensive. You can rent a private boat from Agia Kiriaki for either a half day or a full day and head straight to Tsigrado beach. Put the anchor down and swim to the beach. We visited Tsigrado beach by boat on the same day as Kleftiko.

Note that in the late afternoon, the beach starts getting in the shade.

5. Fyriplaka beach

Fyriplaka beach is located right next Tsigrado beach. When we drove to Tsigrado beach and decided to turn around, we decided to check out Fyriplaka and oh how happy we were with ourselves. Fyriplaka beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Milos.

Fyriplaka beach in Milos at sunset
Fyriplaka beach in Milos, one of Milos best beaches

First, it is easily accessible by car or ATV. There is a big carpark up the beach and the road to the carpark is well maintained. Then, it is easily accessible by foot from the carpark. You just have to walk down the hill all the way to the beach. The walk takes about 5 minutes.

Fyriplaka beach is a long thin white sand strand surrounded by beautifully carved white cliffs. The water is crystal clear and pretty calm. It is also pretty shallow for quite a few meters. There is a big rock formation in the middle of the water which is how you will recognise you are in the right place.

Insider tip: We definitely recommend that you stay on this beach until the end of the afternoon when the sun turns orange and gives beautiful lights on the beach. We honestly couldn’t believe our eyes of how beautiful it was!

6. Alogomandra beach, one of the best wild Milos beaches

Alogomandra beach
Alogomandra beach Milos

Alogomandra beach is located on the North coast of Milos between Sarakiniko and Papafragas beach. It actually was one of our favourite beaches we visited in Milos. It wasn’t that unique but it was very quiet, easily accessible and beautiful. We went there at the end of the say right before sunset and the light was amazing. We had the beach to ourselves and just laid there while looking at the sea and sky. Truly beautiful.

Alogomandra beach is unorganised so you won’t find any food or washrooms there. The road to get to the beach is fine with a car and there is plenty of space to park right by the beach.

Insider Tip: At the beginning of Alogomandra beach, right by the parking space, you will see a small white abandoned house. If you go down the stairs, to the right you will see a beautiful cave created by the rock formations there. The light on the cave at the end of the day was just incredible.

7. Plathiena Beach, a Milos beach with natural shade

Plathiena beach is located on the North Coast of Milos two kilometres away from the cute town of Plaka. Shaped as a horseshoe, Plathiena beach is made of thin sand with tress and cliffs in the background. The trees provide great shade if you don’t have an umbrella. The cliffs at the end of the beach are quite gorgeous and reflect the red colour fo the sun at the end of the day. The shallow water here is  crystal blue and perfect for snorkelling on a calm day. It is an organised beach so you’ll find food, drinks and sunbeds at the centre of the beach.

This beach is accessible by bus from Adamas, if that it your preferred mode of transportation. The beach also features a carpark nearby which is convenient if you are driving around the island.

Insider Tip: If you are visiting Plathiena beach by boat, keep an eye out for the bear-rabbit shaped rock formation that surrounds the beach.

8. Mytakas beach

Located between Sarakiniko and Alogomandra beach, Mytakas is a picturesque beach on the North coast of Milos. With a nice sandy strand and clear waters, this is a great spot to snorkel and have fun in the water! Note that this beach can get windy when the Meltemi winds hit! We recommend visiting Mytakas beach on a calm day.

There are a few fishing houses close by built in the traditional Milos style. They are worth checking out while you are there.

9. Gerakas beach

Gerakas beach in Milos

Gerakas beach is a popular beach only accessible by boat. Actually most tours stop in Gerakas Bay for a bit giving you the time to swim and appreciate the beautiful place you’re in. Gerakas beach’ specificity is that it is surrounded by high striped cliffs. We had a look at Gerakas Bay on our way back from Kleftiko but didn’t have time to stop.

10. Kastanas Beach, one of the Milos beaches in the mines

Kastanas beach is located on the East Coast of Milos and is quite the adventure to explore! The road that leads to Kastanas beach is more of a dirt road where it’s not really advised to bring your car. Kastanas beach is also located in a mining area and you can’t rely on Google Maps to get there. We recommend that you either park your car where the off-limits zone starts and walk to the beach for about one kilometer, or that you come here by boat. An ATV could maybe be okay on those roads but it’s up to you to decide if that’s worth the risk or if it’s better to play it safe and avoid the struggles of explaining why your ATV is damage sin Greek!

Kastanas beach is definitely a hidden gem in the middle of the sulphur mines. Since the beach is secluded, very few people come all the way here so you’ll most likely have the beach to yourself. The beach is surrounds by white, pink and white cliffs and features turquoise clear water which makes it one of the best Milos beaches!

The beach is obviously not organised so you’ll want to bring enough food and water for your time there. Remember that Milos gets really hot, especially when the sun can reflect against the rocks!

11. Paleochori beach, one of the best Milos beaches with red rocks

Paleochori beach, one of the best beaches in Milos
Paleochori beach, one of the best beaches in Milos

Paleochori beach is one of the best red rock beaches in Milos. It is located on the South side of Milos on the opposite side of Kleftiko. The road to access it is very well maintained and there is a big enough carpark right by the beach. You can also take a bus from Adamantas. The drive is takes about 20 minutes.

Paleochori beach is organised. After you park, you can see the restaurant right at the beginning of the beach. Here you can have lunch or just have a drink in the afternoon. There are also sunbeds at different spots on the beach.

However, as you walk further to the end of the beach, you’ll find less and less people and will arrive to the more natural side of Paleochori, our favourite side. Just to note that the end of the beach is also usually where nudists go (but you can also go with a bathing suit).

Paleochori beach is a mix of sand and pebbles so bring some sea shoes for your feet comfort. It is one of the Milos beaches we loved the most. It is surrounded by high red cliffs that make it quite unique and create a stunning contrast with the turquoise clear water. It is similar to the Red beach in Santorini.

Insider Tip: One highlight of our stay at Paliochori beach was seeing a local shepherd with his goat herd at the top of the cliffs. We could hear their bells ringing and then finally spotted them coming down the cliffs! I can assure you that these goats are not afraid of heights! So keep your eyes and ears open when coming here!

12. Provatas beach

Provatas beach is located about 20 minutes South West from Plaka. There is a carpark nearby but the beach is also accessible by bus. It is an organised beach with sunbeds and everything you would need to have lunch or have a drink.

Provatas is a long strand of thin golden strand and clear shallow water. Although the beach is beautifully surrounded by cliffs and very welcoming, it can get crowded and feel a bit more touristy. If you are looking for more of a quiet beach, check out some of the rest of the best beaches in Milos.

13. Kipos beach

In contrary to Provatas beach, Kipos beach is a wild beach located in the South of Milos. With high cliffs, and clear aquamarine waters, Kipos beach is one of the wildest beaches in Milos. The beach is mostly made of pebbles due to the slow erosion of the cliffs.

Kipos beach is accessible by car or by boat. There is a restaurant on top of the hill which is perfect if you want to have lunch or dinner with a unique view on the Aegean Sea.

This is one of the best Milos beaches for couples who are looking to disconnect from the world and reconnect together!

Insider Tip: On your way to Kipos beach, stop at the traditional church of Panagia Kipou.

14. Agia Kiriaki

Agia Kyriaki Milos

Agia Kiriaki is a lovely sandy beach in the South of Milos Island. The road leading to the beach is well maintained but is also quite steep so make sure you are managing your speed adequately.

Agia Kiriaki is a picturesque bay with a traditional taverna, thin white sand and beautiful clear blue water. It also has trees which provide natural shade and is, of course, surrounded by mountains which gives it its charm.

We discover Agia Kiriaki by chance as this was where we had to pick up our boat for the day. We arrived really early (8:00) and the beach was really quiet and still waking up. The sun was not even completely up! It was beautiful and peaceful. We recommend that you also come early so you can enjoy the same peace.

15. Gerontas beach

Gerontas beach secluded beach in Milos
Gerontas beach secluded beach in Milos

On our trip back from Kleftiko, we really wanted to stop at a secluded beach. As we were a bit sea sick, we were looking for a beach where we could stop for a while. And that’s how we found Gerontas beach. Gerontas beach is only accessible by boat. We only saw one other boat stop here so it is pretty secluded. We stopped here for three hours and had the whole beach to ourselves. This is one the most memorable moments of our trip in Milos. It felt like we were the only people in the world!

Gerontas beach is protected from the wind and features thin white sand. What we loved about it was that it was surrounded by cool caves and carved cliffs. The sand was very hot, tot he point that we couldn’t stand it so we spent a lot of time in the shad just looking at how beautiful the scenery was. The water was obviously incredibly clear and perfect for snorkelling as well.

16. Achivadolimni beach

Achivadolimni beach on Milos

Achivadolimni beach is located a few kilometres after Papakinou beach and Adamas, on the inner coast of the Milos. The beach is a long strand of thin golden sand with an incredible view on the inner coast of Milos and Adamas.

As we visited on a windy day, we didn’t stay very long. The beach was very windy and the water, quite rough. This was probably caused by the position of Achivadolimni beach, since it is aligned with the entrance of the Bay. We were the only ones on the beach that day! The beach was very pretty though, with mountains in the back, and lots of trees around it. We recommend visiting on a calm day to enjoy it to the fullest.

There is a seasonal bar on the beach which also provides sunbeds.

The road to access Achivadolimni is really not-well maintained and should not even be called a road. It is definitely more of a dirt road with really big holes, where, if that’s your choice, you’ll have to drive extremely slow. It is also quite a long road to the beach so you’ll have to be a bit patient. When we visited Achivadolimni, we did drive down and honestly regretted it. It was all fine in the end but just not the easiest. If you have an ATV, it might be a bit more manageable.

Alternatively, there is a small carpark at the top of the beach, before turning to go down. We only realised that when we were already at the beach as you can see it from there. There is a big case of stairs coming down from the carpark to the beach. We definitely recommend you park up there instead and finish on foot. It will take you only a couple minutes to come down.

Best Milos beaches near towns

17. Papakinou beach, one of the best Milos beaches for windy days

Papakinou beach is a 500 meter long beach in the south end of Adamas. It is a lovely beach with thin golden sand, beautiful shallow clear water and trees that give natural shade.

Papakinou beach is easily accessible either by foot from Adamas town or by car. There is a carpark right across the street. Although Papakinou beach is technically along the road, it remains quiet and peaceful. There aren’t that many cars during the day as everyone is gone visiting the island.

Papakinou beach, one of Milos best beaches
Papakinou beach in Adamas Milos

One of the best thing about Papakinou beach is the fact that it is located in the inside of the crescent that Milos Island is. On this side, the beach is protected by the North shore of Milos island, making it one of the best Milos beaches on windy days.

When we visited Milos, we had a few days of strong wind and Papakinou was amazing. We spent a couple of days there and really enjoyed the calm waters and being able to nap on the beach without getting sand in our eyes or having hair flying everywhere! It’s also a great beach for your first day in Milos as you cane easily walk there from Adamas.

One thing we loved about Papakinou beach was the view. From the beach, you get an incredible view on Adamas and its white washed traditional house, and of course, the church at the top. You also have quite the view on the internal coast and the other end of the island.

Finally, we were blown away by the sunset at this beach. It was just so beautiful with all the colours and the light on the village.

18. Lagada beach

Lagada beach Milos

Lagada beach is a lovely beach we discovered on our first day in Adamas, when we were just wandering around the town. It is located at the end of Adamas port, after all the restaurants. This is one of the quietest beaches we actually have seen even though there is a hotel and bar nearby.

The beach has thin golden sand, trees for shade and amazingly clear waters. The view gives on the Bay, boats and the coast on the other side.

This is one of the best beaches in Milos to access by foot if you are staying in Adamas.

19. Klima beach

Klima beach is a strand of thin sand north of Adamas by the fishing village of the same name. It is one of the best beaches in Milos to have a drink at sunset. The sunset colours are beautiful and the vibe quite unique with the colourful fishing houses. We recommend having a drink there at the end of the day and taking a walk on the beach. To learn more about what to do in Klima Milos, you can find our complete and detailed guide here.

20. Pollonia beach

We loved going to Pollonia beach on the East Coast of the island. Pollonia beach is a long strand of thin sand, with trees for shades and sunbeds. It is located right in Pollonia so you can see the village from your beach towel!

Pollonia beach in Milos
Pollonia beach in Milos

The view from the beach is very pretty with the village on one side, and the coast on the other side. The beach is protected from the wind thanks to the North Coast so it’s a great option if the Northern winds are strong. Of course, the water is clear and perfect for snorkelling!

There is a big carpark right across the beach where you can leave your car for as long a you need. Although the beach is by the road, it remains very peaceful.

21. Firopotamos beach

Firopotamos beach on Milos Island

Firopotamos beach is located near the town of the same name in the North of Adamas. It is a small thin white sand beach with turquoise clear waters making it looks like a swimming pool. The water is quite shallow and the view unbeatable. The beach is organised with sunbeds and you can get lunch in the village.

Parking is available in the village.

22. Mandrakia beach

Mandrakia beach

Mandrakia beach is a hidden white beach you can reach by swimming. It is located near the village of Mandrakia. To reach the beach you’ll have to start your swim from behind Meduza Restaurant. We saw a group of older people do it and they seemed fine. You can also go by kayak.

Milos beaches essentials

A good amount of Milos beaches are unorganised so there is definitely a list of essentials you should always bring with you to spend the best day possible at the beach.

Food

We recommend always bring food with you regardless of the beach you are visiting and regardless of whether or not it is organised. First, a lot of beaches have no facilities at all. Between the heat and going snorkelling the water, there is no doubt that you will get hungry sooner rather than later. It’s always annoying to have to leave to grab lunch. Instead, bring food with you so you can have a nice picnic on the beach with your partner.

Second, although we do like going to the restaurant on the beach once in a while, it’s more of the exception than the rule. We actually always bring our own food to the beach. This allows us to stay on budget and save money on our food expenses. We do prefer going to the restaurant at night but that’s just our personal preference. Saving money on food is a great way to save money on your trip. This is money you can then allocate somewhere else, including on activities.

Drink/Water

Always, always, bring water with you to the beach. Milos beaches get so hot, it’s impossible not to drink water the whole time you are there. It will also prevent any potential heat stroke. On organised beaches, you can find water at the bar/restaurant but honestly, it’s best to always carry some with you.

A reusable bottle

On Milos, plastic bottles of water are still very much used and there is a simple reason to that: often times, the water is not potable on the island. So people can only drink bottled water. This was our case when we visited. That said, a reusable bottle can often keep your water cold for longer than a plastic bottle would. So we recommend pouring your bottled water into your reusable water so you can have fresh water at the beach. Alternatively, you can freeze sealed plastic bottles and bring that to the beach with you. The water will slowly melt giving you fresh water all day long. We use a mix of both techniques depending on what is possible for us to do.

Sunscreen

This is definitely an essential when visiting Milos beaches. The sun in Milos is strong and your risk of burning is even stronger if it’s a windy day. Just pack on that sunscreen so you can safely tan.

Umbrella

Some beaches in Milos are organised and feature sunbeds which you can rent for around €10-€20. However, those expenses add up over a week (€10×7 days= €70!!!)! Although we do like renting sunbeds once in a while, we actually never did on Milos beaches. We bought our own €10 umbrella which was a one time expense that lasted us for our entire trip in Greece! Definitely recommend this approach!

A book

There are one thing we like to do on the beach and that’s reading! A book is always a good thing to bring to the beach. If you’re more of the type to bring music, please bring headphones so we don’t all have to enjoy it.

Sea shoes

Some of Milos beaches are made of pebbles which can hurt your feet going into or coming out of the water. Sea shoes are great for this. They are light to travel with and can easily fit in a carry on while preventing you from the pain of walking on rocks!

Mask and Tuba

You will love exploring the underwater world at Milos beaches. The clear waters and cute fish are definitely worth checking out with a make and tuba.

Cash/change

Some places at the beach do not accept cards (although rare). Always bring some cash with you so you can have a drink if you feel like it. Sometimes, people will come offering you a massage for about €20. This happened to us on one of Paros beaches and we loved it. We were so happy to have cash that day!
