Save to Find It Later!

Christmas being the most magical time of the year, it’s the perfect time to reinstall some romance and connection into your relationship! In the midst of the holiday season stress, presents and family obligations, traditions are what keeps us connected, to ourselves, and to each other.

Connection in a relationship is absolutely key. It’s what makes your love for each other last and what helps you overcome life’s obstacles as a team.

So here are 30 Christmas traditions for couples that will leave you feeling loved and connected!

1. Christmas morning Love Letters

This has got to be our favourite Christmas tradition as a couple! A few days before Christmas, take some time to sit together and each write a letter to the other. Once you’re done, you can place your letter in your Christmas tree and open it on Christmas morning.

This tradition build excitement ahead of Christmas while growing your love and connection on Christmas morning. So what should the letters be about? Here are a few ideas:

  • What did you love most about your partner this year?
  • How does your partner make you feel special?
  • How does your partner add sparkles into your life?
  • What do you wish for your relationship for the year to come?
  • What are the best memories you have from this year with your partner?

If you manage to answer these questions genuinely, you’ll definitely have a worthy love letter! Don’t forget to date your letters. Once you’ve opened them, save them in a box. After a few years, you’ll be able to look back at them and how far you’ve come!

2. Make a snow couple that looks like you!

If you live somewhere where it snows in December, a couple tradition for Christmas is to create a snow couple. Yes, we all know that making a snowman is fun. But making a snow couple that resembles you two is even more fun!

You can give the two snow people your own characteristics and then have a little photoshoot with them! Every year, you’ll get better and better, and even funnier!

3. Decorate cookies as an event in your relationship

Decorating cookies is fun but we wanted a tradition that was more romantic and relationship related! That’s why we came up with this tradition.

Instead of decorating cookies with a Christmas theme, decorate the cookies to represent a memory or an event that happened in your relationship this year. For example, if you’ve adopted a dog or bought a house, you can decorate cookies by drawing a dog or a house!

Don’t forget to take photos. You can look back at them in a few years and see how far you’ve come!

4. Christmas Bingo

This is a fun Christmas tradition for couples to switch things up and go on an adventure very year. First, you’ll have to set up your Bingo card with Christmas items. Christmas items can include the following:

  1. seeing an air blown Santa Claus
  2. seeing a snowflake shaped house light
  3. ice skating together
  4. kissing under the mistletoe
  5. seeing a giant Christmas tree
  6. eating warm chestnuts
  7. making hot chocolates
  8. hearing a Mariah Carey’s Christmas song
  9. wearing ugly sweaters together

Once you’ve made your Bingo card, you can take the month of December to complete a line or diagonal.

5. Matching Christmas PJs and a movie

This is a cute Christmas tradition to relax together. You can do this on any day up to Christmas but also on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Simply get matching pyjamas from your local store (you can even thrift them for a cute Christmas date idea) and put on your favourite Christmas movie.

6. 12 days of Kiss-mas

Let’s get those Christmas traditions a bit more romantic and sexy! For the 12 days leading up to Christmas, kiss each other in a different way every day. We will let your imagination work but here are some ideas as to how you can kiss differently every day:

  • kiss in different places
  • try kisses from foreign countries
  • vary the length of the kiss

7. Do a good deed together

A tradition you can do every year is, of course, serving your community. Have you heard of any family struggling? Have you heard of another couple or single person struggling? Time to help out!

Get together and each pick items you think the recipients would love. Create a Christmas basket and deliver it together. You can drop it off on the person’s front porch and leave an anonymous note telling them to enjoy the basket. This will be your secret and we can guarantee it will make you feel really good!

8. 24 magical texts

For an easy tradition at Christmas, you can send each other a love text every day until the 25th of December. This is a low effort tradition that makes all the difference. You can send the text in the evening so your partner gets it in the morning.

We know many people lack creativity when it comes to writing love declarations so here are a few examples:

  • Good morning my love. I’m excited to spend this new day with you. I think it is going to be a gloomy December day today but your beauty is all the light I need.
  • You are the best thing that has happened to me. You make everything better and better. I cannot imagine another day without you.
  • Hi love. Did you know that you are my sunshine? You light up my nights and make my days sparkle. Thank you for choosing me.
  • Hi my love. I love you so much and I can’t wait for this new day with you. With you I feel so safe and loved. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

You can also text a link to a song that makes you think of your partner or even song lyrics!

9. Go pick out a Christmas tree

This is a classic Christmas tradition for couples and one we love! Every year, you can make it a day trip to go pick out you Christmas tree at a local tree farm. Grab some food, have a mulled cider and pick the perfect tree together.

10. Attend a Christmas choir concert

There is something about Christmas choir concerts that makes Christmas authentic. When you’re at a Christmas concert, it’s no longer about presents and decorations, but about togetherness and emotions.

To feel a deep connection away from technology, make it a yearly tradition to attend a Christmas choir concert together.

11. Exchange stockings

After a few years together, you, for sure, know your partner. So go ahead and make each other stockings. Fill them with items you know your partner need for wants.

You can exchange the stockings on Christmas Eve as a tradition before opening presents on Christmas day.

12. A no-tech day

For a Christmas tradition in line with our century, take a no technology day! Turn off your phones, screens and computers and spend the day immersing yourselves in the Christmas spirit. You can play some games, go on a walk, check out Christmas decorations and bake apple pie! You can, of course, go for more naughty activity but we don’t want to know what they are hehe.

No matter what you decide to do a not tech day will definitely make you feel closer and more present with each other.

13. Join our LoveVent Calendar

If you’re out of ideas as to things to do as a couple for Christmas, you can make our LoveVent Calendar, your new tradition! We built this calendar as a countdown to Christmas specifically for couples. Every day until Christmas, you will receive a date idea or a question to deepen your relationship.

14. Naughty or Nice notes

During December, make it a tradition every year to leave notes for each other in the house. You can make nice notes about things in your partner that you love or naughty notes about things you’d like to do to your partner.

You can hide these notes everywhere! They will create excitement between you two!

15. Make memory ornaments

Every year, take a couple hours to sit together and create homemade ornaments about a memory you have together. We highly recommend using air-dry clay for this as it’s easy to use for beginners.

You can shape the clay as a heart and engrave your initials or a date. You can also shape it as a country, for example the country of your honeymoon or favourite trip you took this year.

Don’t forget to create a small hole at the top so you can hang your creations on the tree!

16. Make a time capsule

Christmas is the perfect time to reflect on the past year and where you’re at in your relationship. Sit together and gather memories from the year. These can include concert tickets, plane tickets, birthday photos, a broken wish bracelet, etc. Add everything into a small box (the capsule) with the date on it. In a few years, you’ll be able to travel backwards and see how far you’ve come.

17. Scrapbook your year together

Another way to reflect together on the past year is to make a scrapbook every year. You can add photos, texts and small items to tell the tale of your year together. You can then collect each scrapbook and look at them year over year.

Every year, take a few hours to come together and write a song about the year you’ve had together. You can use a famous Christmas song’s melody as the base. Then you’ll just have to tell your story through well-chosen lyrics.

Honestly, this isn’t to be taken too seriously. The main purpose of this tradition is to have a good laugh and reminisce about all the good times spent together!

Once you’re both happy with your list, set it aside and forget about it. Next Christmas, you’ll get to look at it and see what became true!

22. Present Scavenger Hunt

Presents are one of the funnest part of Christmas. But as adults, it can start to feel like it’s always the same. Plus, as a couple, you usually get a lot less present than kids so opening them end sup being quite a short experience.

Instead of simply exchanging presents, turn the moment into a scavenger hunt. Give your partner clues and riddles that they have to solve to find each present. That will make the moment last longer and a lot more fun!

Alternatively, you can also hide the presents in your home and tell them hot when they’re close to one and cold when they’re far to find one.

23. Holiday Baking Challenge

If you like spending time in the kitchen, make it a tradition to have a baking competition. You can bake Christmas cookies, apple pies, or even a chocolate yule log. Challenge each other to make the best one and have your friends decide on a winner!

Christmas crackers are a cool tradition that is easy to recreate at home. You will need two empty rolls of toilet paper, crepe paper and any item you’d like to insert in the cracker.

Cut each toilet roll in two pieces. Hold the two pieces together and glue the crepe paper as to wrap the roll. Fill the rolls with your small items. Then tie whatever paper is left on each side together like bows. You should end up with something resembling a candy.

Once you’ve exchanged the crackers, simply pull on each side to crack them open and reveal the small surprises!
