18 Better Christmas Date Ideas For Couples Who Are Bored Of Christmas Markets!

Save to Find It Later!

When Christmas season comes around, life as a couple gets busy and it can be hard to find time to fit in date nights or even day dates. And when you finally have some time, you’re left with the forever same Christmas date ideas like making a snowman, having hot chocolates or going ice skating.

Though these Holiday date ideas are cute, we wanted to share some more unique date ideas for Christmas season so you can break your routine and try new things. Some are purely unique ideas while some are traditional Christmas dates that we’ve upgraded for more romance.

1. Make a snowcouple, one of our favourite winter date ideas

Having a build-a-snowman date is quite a common idea. But we’ve never seen anyone recommending to make a snowcouple. What can make it more romantic than recreating you two as snow people?

For a good laugh with your partner, make two snow people and ensure that they each have recognisable characteristics that you two have. For example, you can give your snowman glasses, and create long hair for your snow woman (these are just examples).

You can also create funny or cute scenes like the two snow people holding hands, giving each other a hug or having a fight (yes, because couples fight sometimes!).

2. 2.0 Gingerbread house date

In 2023, real estate is through the roof everywhere you go! So instead of building a real house (that us, millennials can’t afford), why not build your dream house with gingerbread cookies?

Instead of each of you building a separate gingerbread, let’s upgrade this date by uniting forces and building your dream house together. You can make it with two stories, large windows and a front porch!

This fun Christmas date will act as a conversation starter about where you see your future and what features your future home absolutely needs, for example, a gummy hot tub in the backyard!.

3. Upgraded ice skating date

Ice skating is definitely a romantic Christmas date but it can become repetitive, especially after your 4th or 5th time around the rink! Imagine that you’ve been married 10 years and have been going ice skating for just as long, it’s not exactly surprising to go again. So instead of simply going ice skating, let’s upgrade this idea.

First, you’ll need to research a couple of easy ice skating figures to replicate. They don’t have to be fancy and you won’t have to be swirling in the air. But recreating simple figures can be an incredible way to connect and really work together as a team. This will reinforce your connection.  If anything, it will make you laugh, and we all know that making her laugh is the way to her heart!

Second, you’ll want to create a whole atmosphere around ice skating. For example, you can plan to grab hot chocolates and food afterwards.

4. Make hot chocolate bombs

Having hot chocolates together is a fun date idea but we thought it was a bit too complacent, especially if you’ve been dating for a while.

Instead of simply making hot chocolates, make hot chocolate bombs together. You will need melted chocolate, a curved cold to create the two halves for each ball, and hot chocolate stuffing.

For the stuffing, you can pick anything you like. Our suggestions for the hot chocolate stuffing are cocoa powder, marshmallows, crumbled oreos, and crumbled kitkats.

If you’re looking for Christmas date ideas for teenage couples, this is a super cute one! But of course, it works wonders for adults too.

Once you have made the halves and picked your stuffing, add your stuffing to one half and stick the other half on top using melted chocolate. You can then use them and talk about your favourite memory of the year while sipping on your hot chocolates!

5. Winter-themed spa date at home

Another Christmas date idea we love is to elevate your usual relaxing spa date with a winter theme. You will need a few things to make this one extra special, but it’s easy to organise nonetheless.

For this Holiday date night idea, you will need one or several pine scented candles, some flower petals, a winter themed bath bomb, oats, a banana and some twinkly lights (optional).

Mix the oats and banana to create a homemade natural calming face mask (make sure you’re not allergic to either). You can apply it before or after going in the bath.

Fill the bath with warm water and turn on the twinkly lights (far away enough from the water). Light up the candles and spread the petals on the floor and in the water. Once the tub is 70% full, dip in and release the winter bathbomb. Now it’s time to relax together!

6. Christmas romantic letters

Love letters are never out of style! To level up your relationship during the Holiday season, let’s turn love letters into a cute Holiday date idea.

For this, you will need two pieces of paper, two pens, and two envelopes. You will also need a drink of your preference and possibly some snacks, because snacks make everything better!

Sit together at the table and write each other a letter to be opened on Christmas morning. This will build up the excitement until Christmas day. In your letter, you can talk about:

  • your favourite memory from the year
  • your favourite thing in your partner
  • how you see your future
  • what makes you the happiest in your partner

Place your letters in your Christmas tree and open them on Christmas morning. This is one of our favourite date ideas Christmas is perfect for!

7. New Year’s wishes for your relationship

Another one of the date ideas couples will like to do during the festive Holidays is to replicate idea #6 but with wishes for the New Year. Instead of opening your letters on Christmas morning, you open them on the 1st of January.

Rather than reflecting on the past year like in the Christmas letters, these New Year wishes focus on the future and where you cant to take your relationship next.

8. Upgraded Christmas painting date

A painting date can be fun but we thought we would upgrade it for better Christmas date ideas for couples.

You will need:

  • 2 canvas or pieces of paper
  • paint (acrylics or watercolours)
  • two brushes
  • two small bowls with water
  • two glasses
  • sugar
  • sirup
  • a drink of your choice
  • snacks
  • twinkly lights

Place the canvas, paint, brushes, bowls and twinkly lights on the table. Turn on the twinkly lights and dim the bigger room lights.

Spread some sugar on a plate. Mix the water and sirup in a small plate. Dip the edges of the glasses in the water and sirup mix, then dip in the sugar to create a diamond coated edge. Fill the glasses with the drink of your choice. All there is to do is place the snacks and drinks on the table and the date is ready to start with your loved one.

9. DIY Romantic Christmas ornaments

Christmas date ideas lists usually come with a couple of ideas on building and decorating your Christmas tree. Since putting up a Christmas tree is part of the normal process of starting the Holidays, we don’t really think of it as a date idea.

That said, one of the cute Holiday date ideas we recommend is making romantic Christmas ornaments together. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to do this is by using air-dry clay.

Here’s what you will need:

  • air-dry clay (from your local craft store or online)
  • acrylic paint
  • some varnish (optional)
  • paint brushes

The process is easy, see as follows:

  • make your ornament
  • let it dry for 24 hours
  • paint with acrylics and let it dry from 24 hours
  • varnish

As you can see, it takes a couple of steps to get to the final results so it’s a good way to have mini Christmas dates throughout the week.

Romantic ornaments ideas:

  • create hearts with your initials
  • create two halves of a heart that fit together
  • create a round ornament with your wedding date or the date you met

Don’t forget to create a small hole at the top of your ornaments so you can easily hang them to the tree later.

10. Winter-themed cocktails

Exit hot chocolates, welcome winter-themed cocktails! This is one of the Christmas date night ideas at home that you can make on any night, even after coming home from work! It’s quick, it’s fun and it’s delicious!

You’ll need your favourite drinks (don’t have to be alcohol) and mixers, cocktail glasses, candy canes and cinnamon sticks. As an option, you can also add some red or brown food colouring to give your drinks a more winter theme!

To get on with this date idea, make your drinks together and pour them into two glasses. Add candy canes, cinnamon sticks and other Christmassy decorations.

Then head to the couch to sip on your drinks. But don’t stop there! Take this opportunity to talk about your relationship. you can also use our fun conversation starters to keep learning things about each other!

11. Christmas Scavenger Hunt

If you’ve read our other posts, you know that we are fond of scavenger hunts. And there’s nothing that adds more adventure to your Holiday date ideas than a scavenger hunt!

You can create a customized Christmas-themed scavenger hunt for your partner quite easily. You’ll have to give them a riddle whose answer takes them to a Christmassy location. At each location, you can give them a new clue or riddle until they reach the final destination.

For added romance, you can make the final destination a hot chocolate place, a Christmas market or an ice skating rink and go on a follow-up date there.

This is more of a unique Christmas date as it combines adventure, fun and cuteness. More than anything else, it shows that you’ve put effort into it as you will have prepared all the clues and that usually means a lot to most people!

12. Upgraded Holiday movie marathon

Look, we didn’t say we’re against traditional cute Christmas date ideas, simply that they can become boring and need to be spiced up! So of course, we have to upgrade your traditional Christmas movie marathon!

What you’ll need:

  • twinkly lights
  • candles
  • blankets
  • pillows
  • melted chocolate
  • pretzels
  • sugar
  • sirup
  • wine glasses
  • your favourite drink

What to prepare:

  1. Cover your pretzels in melted chocolate and set on a plate for the chocolate to dry.
  2. Set up pillows and blankets on the floor and arrange the twinkly lights around to create a romantic atmosphere.
  3. Dip the edge of your wine glasses in sirup and then in sugar to create a diamond looking coat on the edge. Fill with your preferred drink.
  4. Enjoy your favourite holiday movies!

Favorite Christmas movies suggestions:

  • Elf
  • The Holiday
  • The Family Stone
  • Harry Potter
  • Twilight

13. Fondue night

Time to create a cozy Christmas date with a delicious fondue night! First, melt cheese or chocolate and dip bread, meat, vegetables, fruits, or sweets. The best part? you can have both a savoury and sweet fondue! We recommend making it more romantic by dimming the lights, and playing soft music.

This is a perfect winter date idea for the holiday season and it’s easy to set up. The only thing we’re asking? Save us some!

14. Make a wreath, one of the cute day date ideas

Putting your Christmas tree together as a date is SO 2022. For Christmas date ideas in 2023, we encourage you to build a wreath together.

It’s quite easy to make! You’ll have to gather evergreen branches, pinecones, and ornaments to craft a wreath together. You can also use styrofoam and dry Christmas flowers!

Working on it together will reinforce your team spirit! Once finished, hang it on your door as a symbol of your creativity and love.

15. Make mulled wine

For a cute and quick Christmas date night idea, go ahead and make mulled wine together. You’ll have to heat red wine with spices like cinnamon and cloves. You can also get mulled wine spices at your local store if you want to make it even easier.

Once it’s simmered for a while, it’s time to sip this warm and fragrant beverage by the fire. You don’t have a fireplace? No problem! Turn on a fireplace video from YouTube, snuggle up under the blanket and share your favorite memories from this year.

16. Create your own stockings

The holiday season comes with its disadvantages when it comes to the weather. Between the rain, the wind and the cold, sometimes we just want a cozy Christmas date at home!

Well, we’ve got you! Making your own stockings is super fun and can be super romantic too. We did this when we spent Christmas in Dublin and it was a lot of fun! Get some drinks, snacks, put on matching Christmas pyjamas and let’s get started.

What you will need:

  • 4 squares of felt
  • scissors
  • glue
  • more felt for decorations
  • fluffy material to create the white stripe at the top.

First, cut out the stocking shape in each felt piece. You should end up with 4 sock shaped pieces. Then glue them together two by two so you can create two stockings.

Once you’ve built your stockings, it’s just a matter of decorating them. You can make them super cute with hearts and your initials or keep them Christmassy. Let your imagination do its things!

Once they’re done, you can jointly hang them in your home. They’re ready to be filled on Christmas day!

17. Christmas couple photoshoot in the snow

Most people love to watch snow from the warmth of their homes. Let’s not be like most people. When you step out of your comfort zone, that’s usually where the fun begins!

During or after a snowfall, put on your favorite festive outfits (that can definitely be matching Christmas pyjamas!) and take photos outside in the snow. You will need a tripod to make it much easier to capture photos of you two together. Alternatively, you can hire a professional photographer!

Afterward, finish your date with smore’s and hot chocolates and pick your favourite photos!

18. Inception Christmas date idea

We’ve all been there. It’s Sunday, you want to go on a cute Christmas date but nothing sounds good enough? Let’s try this. We call it the inception Christmas date!

Head out to one of your local stores. Now you’re going to hit several aisles. For each aisle, one of you is going to close their eyes and walk down the aisle. The other will tell you to stop at random. Whatever you’re standing in front of becomes part of your date.

For example, let’s head to the board games aisle. One of you walks down the aisle. When the other says stop, the game you’re in front of is the game you’re going to play. You can sweep your arm up and down as you walk to make it easier to pick one item if you’d like.

You can go to the drinks aisle, the food aisle, the games aisle, the blanket aisle, the movie aisle, etc…

Picking each item is in itself really fun and feels like an adventure you’re sharing together. That’s why it reminds us of Inception. You’re sort of dating within a date! Once you’re all done, you can take all your items and create a date out of them!
