24 Reasons to Visit the USA Next
Are you thinking about visiting the USA but not quite sure? Weโre here to help you decide. Our travels have taken us from the lively streets of New York to the laid-back vibes of California, and even to the tropical shores of Hawaii. Iโve (Marie) even had the chance to live in Idaho, experiencing a totally different side of American life.
Along the way, we’ve seen some incredible national parks and visited a bunch of different states. From all this, weโve gathered a bunch of reasons why a trip to the USA is worth it. It’s a place with something for everyone, and each state has its own unique flavor. Stick with us, and we’ll show you why the USA should be on your travel list. Here are 24 reasons to visit the USA on your next trip!
1. Diversity of Landscapes
The USA is almost like a collection of several countries packed into one, offering an incredible diversity of landscapes. From towering mountains and dramatic rock formations to vast canyons, sprawling deserts, bustling cities, and charming small towns, thereโs an endless variety of scenes to explore.
And let’s not forget the picturesque beach vacations! This diversity ensures that there’s something for everyone, no matter your travel preference. Even for the seasoned traveler, the United States continually offers new and surprising experiences, making it impossible to get bored.
2. Year-Round Destination Options
One of the best things about the USA is that it’s always the perfect season somewhere within its borders. The country’s vast size means you can find your ideal travel destination at any time of the year. Dislike the cold of winter? Head to the sunny shores of Florida or the tropical paradise of Hawaii.
Prefer cooler weather during the hot summer months? Alaskaโs cooler climate is a great escape. This contrasts with many places like Europe, where summers are predominantly hot, and winters are mostly cold. In the U.S., you have the luxury of choosing your preferred weather year-round.
3. People Are Welcoming
Contrary to how the media often portrays Americans, we’ve found that most of them are really nice and welcoming. As a French person who has lived in the USA, I felt more welcomed here than I ever did in Paris. I quickly realized the sense of community. Even though it’s not always deep relationships, Americans, including in small towns, tend to be quite social. This is another reason to visit the USA.
People in the U.S. are generally willing to help, even in smaller towns that are often depicted as more narrow-minded. This mix of different cultures and backgrounds contributes to a warm and friendly atmosphere that can pleasantly surprise visitors.
4. Wildlife Viewing
For wildlife enthusiasts, the USA is a treasure trove. We had the thrilling experience of seeing bears in Sequoia National Park. I even spotted moose in North Idaho.
Across the country, from bison roaming the plains to deer in the forests, the United States offers diverse wildlife spotting opportunities. Each encounter is a reminder of the rich natural heritage and the importance of conservation efforts in these habitats.
5. Americaโs National Parks
The national parks in the USA are, without a doubt, one of the best reasons to visit the USA next. Each park has its unique landscapes, offering a wide variety of landmarks and natural formations. These parks are spread throughout the country, from coast to coast and even in the heartland, meaning youโre never too far from one, no matter where you are in the country.
The experience is also so different in each national park. For example, the Death Valley feels like being on Mars and you have to plan getting gas really carefully or getting stranded could cost you your life. Other parks like Sequoia or Yosemite are more chill but offer opportunities to see wildlife including bears.
Take, for example, Utah’s Mighty 5 โ a collection of national parks within a single state, each with its distinct beauty. The diversity and accessibility of these parks make them a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
6. Country Music
The United States is the birthplace of country music, with states like Tennessee being its heartland. It’s home to so many music cities! Music is an integral part of the culture here, especially in iconic places like the Grand Ole Opry, the Bluebird Cafe and the Ryman Auditorium, often referred to as the sacred heart of country music.
Our visit to Studio B and Elvisโ Graceland was an unforgettable experience. For any country music fan, these destinations are not just venues but pilgrimages to the soul of American music heritage.
7. Incredibly Unique Experiences
We’ve been lucky to enjoy some incredibly unique experiences in the USA, such as horseback riding in Monument Valley and skydiving in Oahu. While you can do these activities elsewhere, the vast, awe-inspiring landscapes of the USA make them ten times more memorable.
Itโs the feeling of freedom, of being a true adventurer amidst such grandeur, that makes these experiences invaluable. It’s a feeling everyone should experience at least once in their life.
8. Budget-Friendly
Vacations in the US can cater to all budgets, from a modest small-town stay to a lavish Disney vacation. Accommodation options range from economical motels to luxurious 5-star hotels in Hawaii.
The beauty of the USA is that its diverse landscapes and attractions allow for a rich travel experience regardless of budget, ensuring everyone can find something to suit their financial comfort.
9. Unique Flora
When thinking of the USAโs flora, the giant Sequoias often come to mind first. However, the country is home to even older and more unique plant life.
For instance, the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in California has trees that are about a millennium older than the Giant Sequoias. Witnessing these ancient natural wonders is not just a visual treat but a journey through time, highlighting the diverse and rich natural heritage of the United States.
10. Wide Range of State Parks
With over 10,000 state parks, the USA offers a vast array of natural wonders that contribute significantly to the nation’s environment, heritage, health, and economy. These parks, operated by state governments, are often in close proximity to urban areas, making them easily accessible.
In addition, they’re often not as visited by international tourists, meaning they’re quieter and less crowded. If you want to immerse yourself in the USA, US State Parks can be a great way to do so.
They offer lots of activities like boating, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, and even golfing. Each park presents a unique opportunity to connect with nature and engage in outdoor adventures, making them a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.
11. Iconic City Life
American cities, while different from the historically rich cities of Europe, bring a unique view to the table. Cities like Los Angeles or New York City are so expansive they feel like several cities in one.
They are bustling hubs that remind us of TV shows and represent the American dream. These cities offer a mix of rich culture, fun, good food, and heritage, featuring museums, tourist attractions, music scenes, and roots that are deeply entwined with the nationโs history.
12. Endless Road Trips
The USA is the ultimate destination for road trips, offering endless options whether you follow our itineraries, carve your own path, or traverse the historic Route 66. The diversity of landscapes ensures that road trips can be enjoyed all year round โ picture summer road tripping along the West Coast or fall road tripping in New England. The countryโs vast open roads and scenic byways make it perfect for adventure seekers looking to explore the expansive and varied American landscape.
13. Relive Your Favorite TV Shows and Movies
The USA is home to numerous towns and cities where famous movies and TV shows were filmed or set. Many of these iconic locations can be visited without the need for a guided tour or admission fees.
For instance, some of our favorite towns are Wilmington, NC, which is known for “One Tree Hill” and “Dawsonโs Creek,” while Covington, Georgia, is the filming location for “The Vampire Diaries.” Los Angeles boasts the “Pretty Woman” scene on Rodeo Drive, and Washington state offers the backdrop for the “Twilight” movies. These locations provide fans with a tangible connection to their favorite on-screen worlds.
14. Theme Parks
The USA is a wonderland for theme park enthusiasts. With world-famous parks like Disney, Universal Studios, and Six Flags, the options are virtually endless. Each park offers a unique blend of thrilling rides, entertaining shows, and immersive themed experiences.
Whether you’re a fan of magical fairy tales, movie-inspired adventures, or adrenaline-pumping roller coasters, American theme parks are designed to provide unforgettable experiences for visitors of all ages.
15. Outdoor Enthusiasts’ Playground
For those who love the great outdoors, the USA is a playground of endless possibilities. From the lush landscapes of the Pacific Northwest to the diverse national parks, the country is crisscrossed with countless trails and natural wonders.
Whether itโs hiking, biking, camping, or kayaking, the varied terrain offers something for every type of outdoor enthusiast. The beauty of the American wilderness is not just in its diversity but also in its accessibility to adventurers of all skill levels.
16. Opportunity to See Volcanoes and Lava Landscapes
Experiencing volcanoes is a unique aspect of visiting the USA, especially in Hawaii. The Big Island, for instance, is home to active volcanoes. When we visited, Kilauea was dormant, but it erupted about a year later! The lava has actually created hot ponds that you can bath in on the island, pretty impressive right!
Driving around roads made of solidified lava is an extraordinary experience that’s not common elsewhere. Itโs a powerful reminder of natureโs might and a rare opportunity to witness the Earth’s raw, geological processes up close.
17. World-Class Scientific Centers
The USA is home to some of the world’s leading scientific research facilities. Visitors can explore places like the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Fermilab, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Kitt Peak Observatory, Mount Palomar Observatory, and various NASA centers.
These institutions often offer tours, giving a glimpse into cutting-edge scientific research and achievements in fields like astronomy, physics, and space exploration.
18. World-Class Museums
The USA boasts an array of world-class museums, catering to a wide range of interests. Art enthusiasts can visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Getty Center and Villa for their incredible art collections.
History buffs will find the Smithsonian and the Field Museum invaluable for their extensive exhibits. These institutions not only house vast collections but also serve as cultural epicenters, offering educational and inspiring experiences.
19. Generally Low Gas Prices
Gas prices in the USA are generally lower compared to many other countries, making it more economical to travel around, especially for road trips. This affordability enhances the appeal of exploring the vast landscapes of the country by car. Whether itโs a cross-country adventure or a short scenic drive, lower fuel costs contribute to making road trips a popular and accessible way to see the USA.
20. Thereโs Always a New Place to See
In the USA, there’s always something new and different to explore. Not a fan of New York City? No problem โ the country is filled with countless other destinations, each with its unique charm and character. Dislike nature?
The U.S. offers a wide range of vibrant cities, each distinct in its way. From the sunny beaches of California to the historic streets of Boston, the diversity of places means youโre sure to find somewhere that feels just right for you.
21. Impressive Architecture
The architecture in the USA is impressively diverse, offering a distinct contrast to the historical architecture found in Europe. Iconic structures like the Capitol and the White House showcase the nationโs political history, while the striking LDS white churches represent religious architectural marvels. American cities and towns boast a mix of modern, colonial, art deco, and other architectural styles, reflecting the countryโs rich cultural tapestry and innovative spirit.
22. Food Diversity
As a French native, I’m tough on food ratings. I definitely consider France a sbeing the number one country for food. That said, I also get mad at anyone saying the US have nothing to bring on the culinary scene. I’m complicated like that.
The culinary landscape in the USA is as diverse as its geography. Each region offers its specialty, like the pepperoni rolls in Clarksburg, West Virginia, deep-dish pizza in Chicago , the iconic lobster roll in Maine, or huckleberry-flavored treats in North Idaho.
This diversity provides a gastronomic adventure across the states, that allows you to taste the unique flavors and recipes that define each area. American cuisine is a melting pot of global influences, offering something delicious for every palate. It’s definitely something to integrate into your trip!
23. Discover Some U.S. Curiosities
Visiting the USA is sure to present some curious and interesting experiences, especially for those not from the country. You might find yourself intrigued by things like garbage disposal units in kitchen sinks, the unexpectedly wide gaps around toilet stall doors, or the frequent check-ins from waiters and waitresses in restaurants.
These peculiarities are part of the American experience and can be amusing and enlightening, giving you a glimpse into the everyday life and culture of the country.
