28 Spring Date Ideas That Aren’t Your Usual Picnic Date or Sunrise Hike

Save to Find It Later!

Spring is like a big, warm hug after the cold, quiet winter. It’s when everything comes back to life, the days get longer, and everything feels fresh and new. This change isn’t just great for nature; it can also do wonders for our relationships.

After spending so much time indoors, cuddled up against the chill (literally hibernating), spring gives us a chance to shake things up and add some fun and freshness to being together. Sure, picnics and outdoor dinners are classic spring activities, and they’re lovely, but we’re all about trying something a bit different this year.

Let’s talk about something as simple as painting in the park. Picture it: you’re outside, surrounded by flowers that are just starting to bloom and trees getting their leaves back, with the gentle warmth of the sun on your skin. But this isn’t just about painting; it’s about sharing this peaceful time together, letting your creativity flow side by side. It’s a chance to connect in a new way, seeing how each other captures the beauty around you. It’s these little, unique moments that can bring a spark of joy and novelty to your relationship. So, let’s explore more fun and fresh ideas to make the most out of this spring together.

1. Tandem Bike Ride

We’ve found that tandem bike rides are great date ideas for spring. To be frank, they always make us a bit grumpy at first because we’re stuck (like really stuck) together. But it’s a great activity to work on your teamwork and coordination.

There’s something really special about pedaling in sync and navigating different paths and routes together. Once you get in sync, you’ll feel super powerful as a couple and connected.

2. Local Park Bingo

We’re both big fans of Bingo! We love to play movie bingo when we’re too tired to go anywhere and we’d prefer having a date at home. But during spring, you can take your bingo outside.

Local park bingo turned out to be one of our favorite activities lately. You can make your own spring bingo card filled with common sights you might find in our local parks, like a dog playing fetch, a specific type of tree, or someone jogging. You can also add certain flowers that we’re used to see during spring like tulips.

Every time you see that item at the park, you cross the item off your card. The first one to cross an entire line wins.

It’s a fantastic way to really see the beauty and diversity of your local parks while creating a connection and being present with each other. Plus, there’s a fun competitive edge to it, as we rush to be the first to shout “Bingo!” We really like how this simple game encourages us to explore and appreciate the smaller details of our surroundings.

3. Spring Photography Scavenger Hunt

Spring brings life back into the world around us, and what better way to capture its beauty than with a photography scavenger hunt? Here’s a list we’ve put together, personalized to our area, to capture the essence of spring:

  • A blooming tulip
  • A busy bee on a flower
  • Fresh green leaves on trees
  • A bird building its nest
  • A berry bush beginning to fruit
  • A duck or swan in a nearby lake

You can personalize the list to your area too. The goal is to work as a team, combining your love for the outdoors with your creative sides.

It’s not just about completing the list but enjoying the journey and each other’s company. Spring doesn’t look the same everywhere, so we really like how this activity makes us appreciate the unique beauty of our own area.

4. Backyard Movie Picnic

There’s something incredibly cozy and special about setting up a movie in your own backyard. You can lay out blankets, bring out the snacks, and choose a movie you both love.

It’s like having a private cinema under the stars. We especially enjoy the freedom to pause the movie for snack refills or just to chat about our favorite scenes. It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s our way of making an ordinary evening feel like an event.

5. Spring Street Festival

No matter where you live, there has got to be a spring festival nearby. The streets come alive with music, art, and the scents of delicious food. We love wandering through the stalls, trying new foods, and picking up unique handmade crafts.

It’s a celebration of community and the vibrancy of spring. The festival atmosphere, filled with laughter and color, really embodies the spirit of renewal and joy that the season brings.

6. Geocaching

Whenever we’re looking for an adventure, geocaching is our go-to activity. It adds an element of mystery and excitement to our walks. Searching for hidden treasures around our city or in nature makes us feel like detectives on a mission.

We really like how each find is a story, a secret spot we would have overlooked otherwise. Geocaching makes our outings playful and injects a sense of discovery into our everyday life.

7. Paint or Draw Cherry Blossoms Together

We’ve found that painting or drawing cherry blossoms together is not just an activity; it’s an experience. Sometimes, we turn it into a friendly competition, inviting friends, family, or even asking strangers on the street to rate our artwork.

It’s all in good fun, and we really like seeing the different perspectives and interpretations of cherry blossoms. It’s a great one for you to try if you like going outside during spring but are tired of simply going to the park or on a walk.

8. Pet Farm Visit in Spring

Spring is the perfect time to visit a pet farm, and we absolutely love it. Seeing the baby animals, such as lambs, piglets, and calves, is a heartwarming experience.

We especially enjoy the opportunity to interact with them, which brings a sense of connection to nature and the cycle of life. It’s a gentle reminder of the new beginnings that spring brings.

9. Botanical Garden Picnic

A picnic in a botanical garden is one of our favorite spring activities. It’s a great way to be connected to each other and to nature while enjoying the sun and the fresh spring air.

We pack a basket with our favorite foods, a cozy blanket, and spend hours just being together in nature. It’s a simple pleasure that we think is the essence of enjoying the present moment.

10. Take a Flower Bouquet Making Class

We recommend taking a flower bouquet making class. Learning about different flowers and how to arrange them not only sparks your creativity but also gives you a new appreciation for flowers and learning a new skill together. We especially enjoy the hands-on experience and the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with our own hands.

11. Make a Themed Spring Tic Tac Toe with Air Dry Clay

Crafting a themed spring tic tac toe game with air dry clay is a fun spring project you can do together. You can choose symbols of spring for the pieces, like flowers and butterflies, making the game not only functional but also a decorative piece for our home.

We made one based on our own story with my pieces being croissants (I’m French) and Eric’s pieces being moose (hes Canadian). We really like how it encourages us to spend unplugged time together, to make it but also, once it’s dried and painted, how it allows us to play together. It’s a unique and creative way to welcome the season.

12. Take Golf Lessons Together

Taking golf lessons together is a great date idea for spring as you’ll be outside. Learning the techniques, understanding the game, and spending time outdoors in the fresh spring air is incredibly fun and rewarding. We think it’s a great way to challenge yourselves while also enjoying each other’s company in a relaxed setting.

13. Cherry Blossom Picnic

There’s something truly magical about having a picnic under the cherry blossoms. The fleeting beauty of the blossoms reminds us to cherish the moment and each other. We pack light snacks, a blanket, and sometimes a book or a camera to capture the beauty around us. It’s super cute and nice spin on a simple park picnic.

14. Cherry Blossom Photoshoot

A cherry blossom photoshoot can even become a spring tradition for you. Dressing up and capturing moments among the breathtaking blooms is a way to celebrate the season and your relationship. We enjoy planning our outfits and finding the perfect spots for photos. It’s not just about the pictures, though; it’s about creating memories together in the beauty of nature.

15. Visit Local Flower Festival

We absolutely adore visiting local flower festivals. It’s a tradition we look forward to every spring. Walking through rows of brightly colored blooms, we’re always amazed by the variety and beauty of nature. It’s not just about the flowers; it’s the festive atmosphere, the food stalls, and the crafts that make these festivals a highlight of our spring. They make for a great spring date.

16. Make Spring Rolls

Confession: we eat spring rolls all year-round! But they’re suited for spring so why not make them together? We love getting together in the kitchen, chopping up fresh vegetables, and wrapping them in rice paper.

It’s a fun and interactive way to make dinner, and you can experiment with different fillings. Sometimes we’ll add shrimp, other times tofu, and we always have a variety of sauces for dipping. It’s a light, healthy meal that perfectly captures the essence of spring. You can even pack them and bring them on a picnic!

17. Paint Candles with Spring Colors

Why not pain candles together with spring colors. It’s a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, and using spring colors like blues, pinks, and yellows that will brighten up our home.

18. Start a Small Spring Garden on Your Balcony

Starting a small spring garden on your balcony can be a rewarding common project. You can plant a variety of flowers, herbs, and even some small vegetables.

You’ll like tending to your plants, watching them grow, and enjoying the fresh herbs in your cooking together. It’s amazing how much life a few plants can bring to a small space, and you’ll be excited to see the first sprouts of the season.

19. Visit Beekeeper

Bees are fascinating and spring is a great way to visit them together. This is a fun date idea for spring that will shake your routine. You’ll learn about the importance of bees in pollination and how honey is made.

Usually, you also get to taste different types of honey and see the bees up close (while wearing protective gear, of course). It’s an educational and fun outing that we highly recommend to anyone interested in nature and conservation.

29. Do a Treetop Adventure

I (Marie) used to love this activity but ever since I fell while climbing, I’m no longer a fan of heights. That said, we still recommend this activity for couples who are comfortable with being up in the air.

You’ll be navigating through obstacle courses, ziplined across trees, and will enjoy the thrill of being high above the ground. It is a great date idea to work together, support each other and encourage each other to be braver (unless you’re like me and won’t get up a treetop ever again even if someone pays me lol).

20. Sunrise Walk with Take Away Breakfast and a View

Starting our day with a sunrise walk, takeaway breakfast in hand, is something we love to do. There is something special about taking the time to be together before the city is actually awake.

We find a spot with a beautiful view to watch the sunrise, enjoying the peaceful morning hours. We especially appreciate the quiet moments shared over breakfast, watching the world wake up.

21. Rooftop Drinks

There’s something magical about enjoying drinks on a rooftop as the sun sets. We love finding rooftops with great views of the city or the countryside. It’s a wonderful way to unwind after a busy day, and we especially appreciate the chance to catch up with each other in a beautiful setting. Whether it’s cocktails, wine, or mocktails, rooftop drinks are a spring and summer staple for us.

23. Create Frames with Dry Flowers

You can create frames with dry flowers to hang in your home. The process is simple but requires a bit of patience:

  • Select and buy transparent photo frames, at least A4 sized.
  • Choose dry flowers, which you can dry yourself by placing them in a dictionary.
  • Plan out your designs, deciding whether to go with two colors, make one frame each, or collaborate on both.

We especially love the personal touch it adds to our home, and it’s a wonderful way to preserve the beauty of spring flowers year-round.

24. Painting at the Park

We’ve discovered that painting at the park is one of the most relaxing activities. Surrounded by nature, we let our creativity flow onto the canvas, inspired by the beauty around us.

We really like to bring a picnic blanket, some snacks, and spend the afternoon immersed in our art. It’s a great way to unwind and spend quality time together, each of us working on our own piece but sharing the experience.

25. Sunrise Bike Ride

There’s something incredibly peaceful about a sunrise bike ride. We love waking up early, when the world is still quiet, and cycling through the cool morning air.

Watching the sunrise as we ride is a breathtaking experience. We especially enjoy planning a route that ends at a cozy spot for breakfast, rewarding ourselves after the ride. It’s a fantastic start to the day, filled with beauty and tranquility.

26. Take an Edible Flower Class

Taking an edible flower class was an enlightening experience for us. It’s fascinating to learn about the different flowers we can eat, how to harvest them, and ways to incorporate them into our meals. You’ll like making colorful salads and decorating cakes with the flowers you learned about.

27. Go Berry Picking Together

Berry picking has become a cherished spring and summer tradition for us. We love spending the day in the sunshine, filling our baskets with fresh, juicy berries.

There’s a simple joy in picking your own food, and we especially enjoy turning our harvest into delicious pies, jams, or just eating them fresh. It’s a sweet and satisfying outing that we look forward to every year.

28. Go Rollerskating at the Park

Rollerskating at the park brings back so many fond memories. We love lacing up our skates and gliding along the paths, feeling the breeze in our hair. It’s a fun way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. We especially like finding parks with scenic views or interesting routes to keep our outings exciting. It’s a playful, joyful activity that we can’t get enough of.
