This Is What AI Thinks the USA Look Like. Can You Guess What These Places Are? 👀😂

Save to Find It Later!

Welcome to an exciting journey across some of the most iconic locations in the United States, but not in the way that you think! This post is more of a game for our readers…

In this unique experience, we invite you, our readers, to guess the famous U.S. places depicted in the images. We used artifical intelligence to generate photos of famous US locations that we’ve visited! Get ready for an intriguing mix of surprises as some photos will astonish you with their remarkable quality, while others might leave you marveling at the quirks of AI technology.

In today’s world, artificial intelligence continues to push boundaries in emulating human creativity and perception, and AI-powered image generation technology is a prime example of this progress. It has the ability to produce images that range from strikingly lifelike to sometimes surprisingly abstract. In this experiment, we wanted to have a bit of fun and see what AI could come up with!

Alright, let’s start with this one! I have to say, it looks almost identical to a photo I took myself! Check it out and try to guess it:

photo 1

Apart, from the interestingly-shaped vehicle in the middle, this AI generated photo is actual quite close to reality, can you guess where this is?

Answer: Monument Valley

See it for real here. We have an almost identical photo!

On to the next…

photo 2

Can you make this one out? There are two main places known for having swamps, one is in Louisiana and one is in…

Answer: The Everglades, Florida!

Learn more about Florida here.

On to the next. Hint: it’s a small town in the East of the USA. It’s also mostly visited during Fall.

photo 3

We’ll agree that this one isn’t exactly it. AI got carried away and built a half castle half church farm that doesn’t nearly resemble the famous church of…

Answer: Stowe, Vermont

See Stowe for real here.

The next one to guess is a national park:

photo 4

This one should be fairly easy. We were super impressed at how real this photo is. Yes, it is AI generated but honestly, we could find almost the same one among our photos!

Answer: Yellowstone National Park

The next one is often thought to be part of a national park while it’s not. That said, it’s always worth adding to your southwest road trip itinerary!

photo 5

I mean, this is pretty impressive, isn’t it!

Answer: Horseshoe Bend

See it for real here.

On to a city next. One that everyone knows…

photo 6

Between crooked walls, weird street lamps and the number of yellow taxis, I think AI got carried away here. I mean having visited this city, I can’t remember there being that many taxis at once on the road.

Answer: New York City

See more things to do in NYC here.

The next one will surprise you, let’s see if you can guess it:

photo 7

AI totally got it wrong here. What’s funny is this place is as famous as some others.

Answer: Haleakala volcano in Maui, Hawaii

See more about Haleakala here.

On to another city. What’s funny about this one is that AI almost got it right. But it didn’t generate some of the famous signs or sights that would make it super recognizable in one instant. Can you guess the city?

photo 8

Answer: Los Angeles, California.

See the ultimate things to do in LA to get the real experience.

Not too far from LA, you’ll find this smaller city, known for its incredible sunsets and spanish architecture influence:

photo 9

Answer: Of course, it’s Santa Barbara.

We though AI got Stale Street fairly well although it doesn’t exactly look like this in real life.

See Santa Barbara for real here.

The next one is a bit more niche and would only be known by outdoor enthusiasts. Hint: Marie lived there for quite a bit.

photo 10

Having lived here, I can guarantee that this is not what this town looks like. AI got the main feature right such as the river and mountains, but the town itself does not look like this.

Answer: Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

We highly recommend for you to stop in Bonners Ferry on your next trip. This small town welcomed me (Marie) for a year and was wonderful. Between the outdoors and the wildlife, there is lots to do there and it’s absolutely beautiful!

Let’s finish up with one of the most iconic sites in the USA. One that everyone knows about, can you guess it?:

photo 11

Answer: Mount Rushmore.

AI got the concept but generated something that’s not exactly the reality. The faces aren’t the right ones and they aren’t placed right either. But we’ll give it a good point for its effort.

So how did you go? Did you get many out of these eleven photos?

As you can see, though AI is pretty decent at generating photos, it doesn’t always get it completely right. It gets carried away and sometimes a bit crooked. It is not going to be taking over from real photographers any time soon, but we hope you had fun with the experiment!

Let us know in the comments below how you did. How many did you get right?
